Topic: Yoghurt Posted: 25 May 2011 at 1:37pm |
I'm wanting to give ds yoghurt (he's almost 7 months old)but not sure what it best. I've been buying calci-yum for myself but not sure its the best for him, and the pottles are too big as he's still a small eater. What yoghurt do you recommend? TIA

I am pretty sure there are small pottles available for babies 6 months plus.

I would just go for the regular fruity ones, the kids stuff is pricey and the only difference is no bits, but the bits are so soft anyways!
Or you can buy the meadow fresh "Smooth" that's what we buy as I dont like bits lol, its thicker too so wont drip off the spoon so easily.

We started off giving J greek yoghurt with fresh fruit added. We still do but more often gets normal fruit yoghurt (ie fresh n fruity or yoplait). We only buy yoghurt in the big 1L tubs - that way we can dole out as much or as little as we want.

I do the same as Delli, we started with Greek yoghurt and fruit or fruit puree added. Nowadays I buy a big tub and just check the nutritional info to make sure I'm buying the one with the least amount of sugar.
Those one's marketed for 6month+ are ridiculously expensive and full of sugar

Yoplait make a baby's first yoghurt for 6 months +. It comes in a pack of 6 x 70g tubs and has no added sugar.
(All the toddler yoghurts for 12 months+ have added sugar).

FreshnFruity do 12-packs of 100ml instead of the usual 150 ml. I find those quite good now, and when DD was smaller, I'd just put some into a container in the fridge and give her some, so she'd eat the rest the next day.

we use greek yoghurt as well and sometimes add a bit of pureered fruit to it- Its what I eat myself and Tom seems to prefer it to the normal stuff (its a bit more sour). Just buy a 1L container as its a lot more economical.

The "Live Lite" Meadow fresh yoghurt is good - not too high in sugar.

I've been buying the small carton of natural unsweetened yoghurt and then getting a couple of different flavours of 100% natural pureed baby fruit with no added sugar. I get the one in the bag with the screw top. Then I just swirl a little fruit over the yoghurt...pear one day, apple the next etc.
It's going down a treat!

DD just has plain unsweetened yoghurt. Greek yoghurt is less messy! Sometimes I will add fresh fruit and/or honey if I'm feeling generous, but she eats the plain stuff too so I figure it's easy enough to give her that and better for her teeth to not have fruit or honey in it!

We started DS1 on plain greek yoghurt, some times mixed it in with banana or avocado. I rarely buy individual yoghurts for DH and I. Now he's a bit older I sometimes buy Petit Miam and give him that as pudding or a treat, they're good for taking out and about too.
DS2 is 7m but we're waiting a bit longer before giving him yoghurt as dairy seems to upset his tummy. Boo.
