a laptop thing? one to help her with maths and stuff.
or a real one, like a small netbook.

beado's or the like. something crafty.
does she like to paint? maybe a big canvas and some paints (some come as sets with the design pre drawn on) it could then get hung up on display

it all depends on what shes into and what the budget is

Melissa & Doug have some cool stamp sets.

And for an alternative to art stuff specifically:
- Animal Sock Puppets
- Tap-a-Shape(my girls love this one)

McKayla turned 5 at the end of last year. Out of everything that she enjoyed the most was her very own baking set. She loves baking once a week for her own things for morning tea at school.

My 5 year old loves littlest pet shop. She loves animals and all the littlest pet shops she puts in beds and houses etc. Mind you at the moment she is sitting in the washing basket with an oar pretending to row a boat. lol

My suggestion is Polly Pocket. Not too expensive and lots of fun.
