Topic: Toddler and Newborn - single buggy? Posted: 03 February 2011 at 12:54pm |
What are the disadvantages of not having a double buggy? I can't seem to make my mind up on which sort (side by side or inline) so thought I would just cope with my off road single and stroller for the toddler? There will be a 25 month age gap.
Any advice appreciated!!

I'll let you know in a few months - have decided not to get a double buggy. Our age gap will be 26-27months and I don't see the point in spending the money when DD probably won't get that much use out of it. I figured either DD will walk everywhere, which she likes to do anyway, or for longer walks I'll wear the baby in the moby and DD can go in the buggy.

I think it depends what you do that requires a buggy. My boys are 3 and 1/2 years apart and we have a phil n teds. Its been fantastic and was getting daily use for when I went on walks/runs when Alex was unsettled.
But i like my pnt's cause if I wanna go somewhere with just alex i have a single buggy too

DS2 was about 17mth when DS3 was born. I got a Phil & Ted single with double kit. I did a lot of walking & walked DS1 to school & back & a side by side double would of been difficult with some of the footpaths & rubbish bin days. It was easy around the shops also & easy to get in & out of the car.
I did get a MB double side by side when the new model came out but DS2 would not sit in it & it cost me $1200. I had to take the wheels of to get in the boot & it took up so much room, also had problems in shops. Got the side by side so they both could see what was happening. I would of been better off getting a kiddy board instead.
I have a single mountain buggy as it can take the most weight, till 5+yrs & when I walk to kindy it is a really long walk & DS3 won't walk the whole way.
For me the P&T was the best option for my 2 littlies & only changed to the MB when the weight got up.

I got one of these, and it's AWESOME!!!! I have it attached to my double umbrella stroller at the mo (for my care children) but it will also attach to my big buggy for DD when the new baby comes.
Bit pricey, but a kiddy board would have done my head in, I kick the back wheels of the prams already, and the almost-3yo who rides it most often LOVES his 'bike'.

i'll have a similiar age gap and plan on getting a double kit for my P&T stroller. I imagine that DD will want to walk a lot of the time, but sometimes it won't be appropriate and she'll use the stroller.
As someone said the double side by sides are bulky. BTW I used to work as a parks and recreation planner and we used to have heaps of issues with many walkways being hopeless for side by sides as they don't fit thru thos barriers you put up to stop motorbikes and cars!

We have a 16 month age gap, the double was great for when DD2 was younger, especially when I was still on maternity leave. Now that they are older (DS is 29 months, DD2 is 13 months) I dont use the double one a huge amount. I have pre-ordered a "freerider" from Mountain Buggy for when they are released in March, looking forward to it getting here!
In saying that DH uses the double (phil and teds style) a bit as he likes to go for quick walks in the evening while I sort dinner, so takes them both with him.

we have a side by side which i like better, we used to have the p&t vibe but Emily hated sitting behind charlie, there is only 1 place in dunedin that i have found we really dont fit but everwhere else seems ok.I love the way they can both lie down for a sleep which is great if we go walkig. I still have my single which i use if i just have 1 and i also have a harness for emily if she wants to walk.

We have a double mountain buggy and we have a P&T Vibe with a double kit.
I prefer the double mb, its easier to maneuver and the kids can interact with each other. However if we go out somewhere we take the P&T because the MB is monstrous to cart around in the car!
Isabelle quite likes the novelty of sitting in the back, but they can last longer sitting side by side without getting bored.

I have a side by side MB which is great. My 33mo still often rides in it and they both like being able to see. The only place we don't fit is the playgroup doorway.
I think the decision depends on how you would use it. We use the dble for walking and never take it in car etc, i use the single when going in car and toddler walks. We have a big garage that is lives in and we live in walking distance from shops, library, playgrounds, playgroup etc so walk a lot, and baby often sleeps with his side down. Toddler can walk a km so if we aren't in a hurry or he needs to exercise we take the single.
When baby was really little i had him in sling/frontpack and toddler in single. And now we have a backpack so sometimes use that and the single. There are so many options! If we didn't have the space i prob wouldn't have got one but i'm glad i did cos we use it heaps. I got mine 2nd hand off tme for $30

I think it really depends on how far you walk. I use the single MB for short walks with a buggy board but we enjoy longer walks too so have a double MB.
The double can be a life saver too when walking and you need to get somewhere fast, not at toddler pace!
I use a combo of both plus a sling depending on the day and wouldn't really be without either. That probably doesn't help much does it?
There anren't many places the double MB won't fit but I do agree with Lilfatty, it is heavy and cumbersome to get into the boot of the car.

We would mostly use the buggy around the shops and I find it tricky enough with a single MB manouvering around Glassons or whereever so there is no way a double would suit me.
I mostly like that the Phil and Ted's can be a single OR a double, not one or the other
and picking C up from school,i'll just use the moby and the umbrella stroller in the first few months

I will have a 2.5 yr gap. I will definitely be buying a double pram.
My girl is a runner so i cant just let her walk when we are at the shops etc. I would just loose her. So she will be in a pram aswel.
Also we do alot of walking so if i want to go for a hour walk i will be putting dd into the pram, she wouldnt walk that long.

I found the double mountain buggy lovely push but a pain in the ass to get round shops! Most shops dont think about double buggys grrr
I have a steelcraft strider with toddler seat and its fantastic! Lovely to push, the main part is ncie and big and can recline right down foe newborn, DD slept well in it as a new born and DS(14 months when DD was newborn) loved the toddler seat.
tried a P and T and hated it!
ETA- The toddler seat comes off too, we used the pram for DS before DD was born as well

We are thinking of using our single stroller + getting a Manduca for the newest baby, our age gap will be 16 mths. I don't expect DD1 to be walking long distances or too steadily at that age (or at all if she follows her cousin which I hope she doesn't!)
Do you mean you already have 2 buggys/strollers and would push them side by side?
Personally could I afford it I would get a PnTs and go with the inline, takes up less space and gets through small gaps easier my sister has a similar model though with 4 wheels from memory.

Im going to get the p&t with toddler seat. That way in a years time if dd doesnt want to go in the pram anymore i can still use it as a single.
They have great resell value on TM too. I might even buy on off TM incase i dont use it much, i wouldnt want to pay $700+ new
