My 10 month old has had vomiting and diarrhea for 5 days now. I've been to the doc twice - and they don't seem to concerned, but he is SO unhappy, and won't hold anything down and it's pretty stressful and worrying (as well as tiring for me!!). I'm trying to keep him hydrated with lots of sips of paedialyte (sp?!)

Just wondering if anyone else has gone through a bug lasting this long. How long did it last? I was expecting this to be a 24 hour thing!!

my son was going nearly 2 weeks with gastro. it was pretty awful and i was 6 months pg. they were happy enough with him left on enerlyte for kids and i just had to wait it out. its got alot better after a week when i changed him to lactose free formula as a temp measure. as long as their hydration was fine (we had to force syringe fluids into him for 2 days) then it will just run its course

DD's lasted for around ten days. We too kept going back to the doctor but they said just keep up the fluids and plenty of rest.

Hope it gets better for you soon.

Keira had two different stomach bugs, noro virus & roto virus and she had it for a week, the doctor we first saw said it was a throat infection and prescribed her medication that was too strong on an empty stomach and made her worse.

We spent few days rehydrating her also with pedialyte, and gave her dry toast.

Hope your wee man gets better soon, its painful to see them so drained and helpless

DS had gastro around 6 months, he had vomiting and diarrhea for 7 days - it was so awful. We would have to change his sheets at least 2-3 times a night every night.

It started on a Saturday and after being really bad and not keeping anything in, we took him to A&E on the Sunday as our GP obviously wasn't open and we were so worried, they gave us pedialyte and just said to wait it out and give it to him in small doses. I went to my GP on the Tuesday after no change and were given more pedialyte and told come back Friday if there was still no change. He was slowly improving but I took him anyway to be certain he wasn't dehydrated. He finally stopped on the Sunday but that was one horrific week!

I hope the bug goes soon!!

Edited for shocking spelling

Really sounds like rotovirus to me. This can last 10 days to 2 weeks with both vomitting and diarreha. Nothing much you can do except keep bubs hydrated. Take him to the doctor if you think he is dehydrated as this is the major problem with bubs of this age.

For others who read this.... we were advised at birth that rotovirus can be really nasty for babies and toddlers. You can vaccinate against it but it does cost you money and is not free on the schedule. You need to ask specifically for the vaccine. The 1st part of the vaccine needs to be given before 20 weeks from memory and the 2nd within 2 months from the first.

Well worth it in my opinion.

Thanks guys. It's just awful when it goes on and on.....it's alot for such a litte person to cope with. MsEmma - Ours has been exactly the same A&E Sunday and Dr on Tues. I REALLY hope tomorrow is better. I guess he is drinking the pedialyte and keeping the small sips down. Did you bother with milk at all or not? I feel so mean - cause I give him 50mls of milk in the morning and before bedtime, but he screams when it's finished cause he wants more. I know that he can't hold more down though. It goes against every natural instinct to not feed your child when you know they are so hungry!

Aww melopop I really feel for you both, it's just so awful when there is nothing you can do for them. my heart ached for DS screaming and crying for food. We were given conflicting advice re feeding, we just did what we thought, if he was keeping more down one day we would give him a little more, if he was really bad the next day we would give less or just pedialyte.

I really hope he gets better soon!
