We're TTC and it's a while before I can even test this month, but there's a chick pox outbreak at DS daycare and I'm feeling really scared. Paranoid I know, I shouldn't meet trouble half way, yada yada yada.
But was if it works this month then I get chicken pox. I'm pretty sure I didn't have them as a kid & I've been told that they're really bad for a pg woman, as in bad for the baby.
DS is bound to get it, I know other parents will keep sick kids home and all that but it's daycare and he's young and gets anything that's going.
On the one hand I'm hoping this is the month, on the other chicken pox.

DH doesn't get why I'm all worried all ready when nothing has happened yet, but I am.

Is there anything I can do - Other than calm down

You can get your immunity tested for chickenpox - if you wanted to be sure. Might be good for peace of mind (or at least, you'd know what you were up against!)

Go to the GP and get tested to see whether or not you have been infected via DS. I also haven't had chicken pox and there was chicken pox at daniels daycare...

I kept daniel at home until it had passed and neither him nor I got it but I dunno if that is fesible.

In all honesty coming from someone who is preg and has to worry about chicken pox if you can get your immunity checked and if you aren't immune get immunised before getting preg it will make pregnancy much less stressful.

Thanks.
I knew about the rubella thing, and I was tested for antibodies when preg with DS, but didn't realise chicken pox was so bad till I started googling it.

I talked to my Drs nurse today. Immunising is $81, and should only be done if you don't have chicken pox antibodies (& not preg). That test takes approx 2 weeks for results.
I'm going to try to relax (ha! that doesn't sound like me) and count the days before I can do a pregnancy test.

If its any consolation, my nephew had chickenpox when SIL was utd with his sister. I think SIL was in the last trimester, so not sure about how and if it affects development of baba in early stages. Niece was fine though. Can't remember if SIL actually got chicken pox or not.

I agree with above, do whatever reduces your stress - check immunity and get a vaccination if this is a possibility

Immunising for Adults is a 2 jab deal and if you shop arround you might find it cheaper but to honest $81 isn't too bad. At this point theres not much you can do either way if he's been exposed he'll either get them or he won't, likewise for you. I'm a Nurse at a GP's and we don't check for chicken pox antibodies before we immunise. If you already have antibodies nothing will happen. I plan on immunising my kids against chicken pox...... when I have some lol

The best person to ask would be your mum (if you can) she'll know if you've had chicken pox, if you have you should be fine as will any unborn bubba.

Hope you doing ok.
