I didn't get it. Thought it was a complete let down to be honest. DF was crying, I didn't tho. Well actually I lie, I cried when the dog lay down next to Jack as he died but I've always been a sucker for cute animal moments.
I think it came across like they left it till the very last episode to try and wind it all up in a hurry. I was just so confused.
I have a few inklings but I haven't watched the rest of the show for years so I could be completely off the mark.
I think the fact that the island life ran in parallel signifies that it was an internal battle for every person and it was when they were at peace internally that they were able to move on in their real life from their own purgatories to the afterlife.
So for Jack he wasn't able to truly move on until he was at peace with his father.
For others it was love or the reinvention of themselves.
Interestingly I also thought that they drew parallels between Jack and Jesus (stabbed with the spear, dying and then coming out of the cave and ascending to heaven)
I thought that Hurley was like buddah - not just for appearances but also the comment he made about being able to leave the island now (unlike Jacob's rules) so that was like reincarnation.
And I think Desmond was like the angel of death - based on the idea that he was rounding everyone up and that he told that woman he wasn't taking her son just yet.
Haha I'm probably totally overthinking it and getting it completely wrong though. These are the ramblings of someone who hasn't watched it for seasons.
I was trying to piece it altogether last night and was confusing myself even more so managed to find a site that has a really good explanation from one of the writers.
I thought that the final was an utter letdown! I didn't watch til this arvo & thank god I could forward the adds! that's always pissed me off.
OMG the cheesy plane scene!!!
I watched a wind up show late at night on thursday which explained a lot of how the black smoke chose John & how Jacob had visited & touched all his chosen ones earlier on in their lives.
Ahhh I see. I thought that plane was the plane that Kate, sawyer etc got on and they all died right then so I didn't really get it as I thought it was weird leaving us hanging about Hurley and Ben but that clears a few things up :)
Thought the ending was a bit average tbh. Still loved the program watched every episode right from the beginning. Aparently the whole series was based on Fate vs Faith - never got that but then I'm not much of a religious person.
Still loved Jack and Sawyer - best looking guys on TV The dog is Matthew Fox's (Jack) own dog.
I read a really funny rant on one site about the stone that Desmond moved being a giant butt plug that stopped a great pile of sh*t from coming into the world - that made about as much sense to me as anything else!
I've tried to find that rant again, but can't - it was well written and highly amusing
