Topic: Less poos when? Posted: 20 April 2010 at 8:55pm |
At what age did your baby start to poo less? Kiara is BF and up until about a week ago she used to have poo in her nappies most of the time. Now she only goes about every second day. I know that some babies can go ages without a poo but I'm just a little worried because this has coincided roughly with when she started gaviscon (although the packet says it can have a laxative effect). Her poo is still soft and she doesn't seem distressed.

My DD 18 weeks is BF and was going 3-4 times a day until about 4 weeks ago, now its about every 3-4 days. The Karitane nurse said it often happens at about 13-14 weeks to co-incide with a growth spurt that happens then too - nothing to worry about unless they are uncomfortable and/or the poo gets firm.

From about 6 weeks Hunter started going once a day, now he is 12 weeks it can be once a week. He never seems uncomfortable but when he goes, he really goes!

It is probably the gav - it completely bunged up DS so we stopped. As long as your bub is not in discomfort and her little farts are still coming through without issue - all is good. If you are concerned about her being constipated you can try baby massage or brown sugar in water.

Yep watch the Gaviscon- the constiptaing effect usually at its worst after 2 weeks of use, then their bodys will adjust. I would not leave it more than 2 or 3 days with no poo before doig something about it when a baby has just started on Gaviscon becasue they can become extremely constiptaed. Even if not pooing is distressing her before its been a few days go to Dr.
For a fully bf baby that is not on any medicating yes its is normal for them to go often, or up to 10 days without a poo at all!
Aiden was going daily, then went 5 days and had a small poo, then went 8 days with nothing- then big poo, then 10 days with nothing then a big poo,..and has now done a poo 4 out of the last 7 days. So their pattern can be very irregular!!

Thanks everyone. I love this forum, you're all so helpful. Well she's still farting like a trooper and she seems fine in all other ways. I'll keep an eye on it though. Last night's catch-up poo was in the bath. Nice .

Isla had been pooping 3-4 times a day up until very recently. She went 24hrs without going #2's and I freaked out thinking something was wrong but the other Feb mums assured me it was normal!(thanks ladies!) Now she is only going once a day. And my goodness, they are whoppers when they do come out! lol
