trying to decide where DS 6.5mths is heading with his routine...

at the moment he usually goes down

7.30-9.30ish
11.30-1.30 ish
3.30-5.30ish

7.30/8pm - 6.30am

I am wondering if i should try stretching out his awake times now and transition him into a 'morning sleep' and an 'afternoon sleep'

he is great at self settling in the day time (sometimes a wee cry for 2mins and then asleep) but the nights have become a nightmare..and its taking almost 2 hours to settle him.. im wondering if he is sleeping too much during the day and thats why he is fighting the night time sleep so much ??

What do other 6.5 month olds do ???

any advice out there mamas - many thanks

What a good sleeper he is? Could be worth trying to extend him out a bit. Some babies extend their awake times all on their own and some seem to need a little help. It could also be the start of object permanence and separation anxiety so I'd tread carefully.

Ashley is also 6.5 months and usually has 3 naps but the last is just a 45min catnap to get her through to bedtime. Sometimes she feeds around 5am so then sleeps until 8.30 and on those days she only has 2 naps.

He is a fantastic sleeper and i feel truely blessed to not have any major dramas (so far - touch wood)

i dont think its a seperation anxiety etc as he will very happily self settle through the day.. its just at night.. its like he is cross and screams with all his might... i give him a cuddle and he will become playful.. if i get him up he will even try to watch tv !! thats why im thinking hes just not ready for bed after soo much day time sleep.

sometimes one day sleep is just a 45minuter ...
but generally its 3 sleeps.

I may try stretching him out from tomorrow and see how that works ??

Plunketline were no help either !

At about 6 and 1/2 half months Amelia dropped one of her daytime sleeps to our routine is for her to have a nap at about 10:30am (hopefully) through to 12:30pm and then an afternoon nap at #:30pm for no more than 1 hour to 4:30pm.

Plunketline told me that she should have no more than 2 hours at the morning sleep and no more than 1 hour at the afternoon sleep. DD#1for us was the other way around so she had a morning catnap and then a larger sleep later in the day. Either way it was no more than 3 hours total at that age.

All I can say is give it a go. You will need to keep bubs occupied until it's time for the first sleep of the day, Can be hard but I try to schedule stuff like housework etc that Amelia can "help" at while she is awake.

Good luck, It does settle down with time.

this is night three of a VERY upset and screaming baby.. and its now 10.15 !!! usually hes down at 7.30/8

I am trying my hardest to understand whats causing him to be so unsettled..

he will feed and fall asleep on me quite happily.. but as soon as hes in the cot its all on

I know hes not hungry
I know hes not got wind
I know hes not hot/cold

so what is it ?? He seems just too darn cross and detirmined not to sleep ... Urrggghh.

Tomorrow im definately not going to 'let him' have three day time sleeps and see if that helps ???!

wish me luck ladies
