Hi there

Does anyone have any tips for using OPKs? I have had experience with an irregular cycle this year but its come right the last few months, has been between 33 and 35 days which is not great but still becoming regular at that.

So I bought some testers to try this month. According to my cycle I needed to start testing Thursday, so I did, and have tested every day since then. At the moment Im getting a faint test line that is not as dark as the control line, which they say is negative, but in saying that my test line was darker today than it has been the other days. According to my cycle it would be today or Monday that I would likely ovulate.

But around Tuesday or so I felt some cramping type pain and have had changes which lead me to think I ovulated around then, so now Im thinking Im testing too late. Have just been BDing every day to be sure, lol.

Im just totally confused and don't really know when it's happening or if I might have missed it. Im going to keep testing until Tuesday as planned and see what happens.

But yeah, I feel like Im doing this all wrong. Any advice, experiences? How accurate are they usually? Is it possible to just miss the surge?

Thanks for any help... just really confused at the moment

You poor thing. OPK test are confusing!
I think if you're seroius about OPK tests you need you use them a few times a day. If you get the surge in the morning or evening it could make a difference.
I think, if they get darker and you have cramps, that's a sign you've ovd. You may have missed the 'line is darker than test line' because you tested a few hours earlier than you ovd. SO if they get darker then lighter, consider that you are oving then. (Unless of course you're are not oving at all!)
To be honest, I gave up on them!

Hey lisa, i have found OPk's quite useful but also very confusing too. I have only used them for 2 cycles, the first i did 1 every day from CD 10, at 5.30pm when I got home from work and got my positive CD15 easy! this cycle i started CD 10 but was impaitient and peed on them twice a day, once at about 2pm then again 4 hours later as i kept getting the faint line. This got very frustrating as the line did not get darker the second time round in a day so i gave up and ended up doing it once a day at 5.30pm like last cycle and positive CD15 again.

So sorry about the rant but my advice is choose 1 time a day to pee on them, and just do it once a day and just keep going as you will get that Dark line!!!

I got cramps and a faint line and thought i must be oving so kept testing, but the cramps stopped and then i got my positive OPK about 3 days later!

Hope that makes sense

I usually get faint lines for a few days before getting a darker line. If you noticed it is getting darker then I would do it twice a day.

I don't think that the cramping is a def sign of ovulating as I usually will feel niggles before ovulation has happened as well.

Can get expensive when you get addicted! I ovulate at the same time every month it seems so have given up using them.

I am using OPK's for the first time this cycle, I am on CD8, I should ovulate on CD13... CD7 & CD8 I've had very faint 2nd lines. I am not relying on OPK's to pinpoint ovulation day, because I know that my CM is more reliable (for me anyway)

You are not the only one that finds them confusing!! I used them for the first time last month and am not sure that I did it properly!! I am going to use them again this month but will also use my CM and we are going to BD more than we did and hopefully it will work!

Yeah I have no idea, I have found them very confusing.

I used them for 6 days this month, and the most I got was a faint line almost as much as the control line, but not quite.

I'm not sure I tested on the right days, as I didn't buy enough and ran out so couldn't keep going. I only tested once a day at 5:30 pm.

My cycle is a bit irregular, tends to be between 30 and 35 days long so it's really hard for me to pinpoint the right days anyway short of buying heaps of tests and testing all the time.

Has anyone tried ovulation microscopes? I know they are more expensive but might be easier for someone like me in the long run?

Thanks

I started testing on day 14 and went through to day 18 and then ran out of tests because one of the ones I had was broken. Im thinking I tested too soon, and that I should have started later. I was basing it on a 33 day cycle.

When do you think I should start next time? (If I have to fingers crossed I dont hahaha)
