My milk supply seems to be dropping quite a bit. I don't know if Daniel is getting enough and whether I should chuck in a FF during the day. He is a bit irritable and I've had to top him up before bed several times. He may be peeing a bit less than normal (though he's in sposies so it's a bit hard to tell). What other signs should I be looking for to know if he's getting enough?
Hi Flissty,
Its so hard to know when you are breastfeeding isn't it? I have had big supply problems with both my babies.
One thing you could do, if you have some scales, is weigh him before the feed, feed him and then weigh him again. Apparently, a mil of milk weighs about a grm so that should tell you how much he got off you. We have been up at the family centre recently and thats what they have been doing for Isobelle.
Or you could express the feed off and then bottle feed him the expressed bm.
One thing Isobelle does if she hasn't had enough is sleep for shorter periods of time.
You might also feel a difference in the strength of your 'let down'.
Issy is in disposables and if she hasn't had enough there is a definate difference in the weight of her nappy.
I know there are other signs but Im a bit nappy brained today. I'll jump back on when I think of them.
I hope that is helpful tho.
