IGNORE THEM!! Everyone feels the need to make a comment on you and your body when you're pregnant and you just need to ignore them! I've had two people in the same day, one tell me I'm HUGE and must be going to give birth any day, another told me I'm still so small and have heaps of growing to do! If your midwife says all is well and your scan was fine then all will be fine. People just carry so differently, you only need to check out the photos in the bellies thread to see that.
It is hard to ignore the comments especially when you're tired and emotional, but try to

Emmecat, don't worry! You're perfectly normal! I've had the opposite comments, people keep telling me I'm big and think I must be due before March!
And my bump only really became "preggy-like" about 20-22 weeks.
I've also been obsessively comparing myself to others on the baby belly thread, and I've decided everyone carries different and its normal. If your midwife is happy, then you should be.
In saying that, I'd just convinced myself I was completely mid-range, when a mother at my antenatal class last night commented that I'd grown the most! Aarrrgh!!

Strangers comments, while they're meant nicely, can wreak havoc with a preggy lady's mind
I wouldn't worry, love. If your scan showed everything to be ticking along perfectly, then who is she to say you're "tiny".
I think everyone just carries differently...
And other people's perception of what a 6 month belly should look like can be way off.
If anyone ever made comments like that to me during pregnancy (which happened a lot, working in retail), I'd just tell myself that it was their own insecurities coming out and that they were jealous

Haha Mama Pickle you may be right about the insecurities thing.....on my part and theirs probably! I'm very happy actually that I haven't gotten 'huge' (yet!) cos I'm very aware I need to lose it after the baby's born lol and I hate dieting. It has just suprised me how free people are with their comments on all aspects of my pg...and I probably don't get as many as others I suspect!
As for my bubba- assume if there was a problem with her size, then the sonographer would've commented on it and or my mw would've called me by now? All the sonographer said was 'what a lovely spine she has and nice long legs and it all looks great! ' We didn't get a CRL cos she didn't do one.
Maybe all my fat is just spread out better than others lol. Cos I certainly have it haha

I agree, ignore them!!! Everyday random strangers comment on my bump, some say I'm HUMOUNGOUS!! (Which I feel, lol) and others say "Oh you're SOOOO tiny!" so you just can't win! One of my friends said I look ready to drop anyday now (eek hope not, still two months to go!) and others say I only look about 5 months not 7 months. Everyone's perspective of what's "normal" is totally different. I don't worry about people's comments because my OB has been saying the whole way that baby is growing nicely and is a perfect size. So it doesn't matter what other people think

If your midwife is happy then you shouldn't be worried. You've probably recently had a scan and the sonographer would have checked to make sure there was enough water and the baby is measuring to dates and they would have let you know if there was anything wrong.
As Rachel said everyone's perspective of normal is completely different. I look like I'm carrying twins (maybe triplets) but was like this last time too and pushed out a tiny but healthy 3kg baby and practically flooded the delivery room, a friend of mine who gave birth the same day looked like she was about 4mths pregnant at full term and her son was healthy and bigger than my baby.
ETA: despite looking like I was carrying an overinflated beachball I only put on 10kgs last pregnancy. I think height and body shape has a lot to do with the way you carry, I am a petite 5ft so my babies have nowhere to grow except out. A better indication of whether you've put on enough weight (other than your midwife who does know best) would be to ask your mum or any aunty that you take after physically what they looked like while pregnant.

I wouldn't worry at about other peoples comments, everyone seems to have an opinion when you are pregnant.
Everyone carries differently as others have said. I was constantly told I wasn't really showing.
I was pretty small until 27/28 weeks and then almost over night I had nothing to wear!!
The sonographer would have told you if they were concerned about your babys size.

Hun definitly dont worry. I got comments all the time on my bump size, I had one lady say to me that I was small for what iw as..maybe like 26 weeks I think and then other people say omg you are huge.
I met a lady once while I was working in Principals clothing store and she came inw anting some new pants cos her old ones were too small, and this lady was TINY! she came in looking for a size 8. Then as Iw as chatting to her she says, "I am 6 months pregnant" and I thought Id heard wrong and I asked her "oh 6 weeks did you say?" and she said nope 6 months! She didnt look pregnant AT ALL, she was a size 6 before getitng preg and was just going to a size 8 then. I was so shocked!
She said that she was carring more towards her back then out the front.
So definitly dont worry hun, actually be thankful lol, the last thing you want is a huge bump that weighs you down and causes you heaps of pain, been there and it sucks lol

I did not start showing til I was 7 and a half months, full term I was still half the size of other pregnant girls I knew, (there is a pic in the photo thread) and everyone told me I was going to have a very little baby , well, she was a nice healthy 7lbs 13 , she was just very tucked up , like I imagine your little girl is .
This time round Im showing earlier , but I still feel small compared to some of the other june mums, but until the mw tells me to worry , I wont.
People tend to like to be all doom and gloom with your first pregnancy , I think its because they can gloat that they have done it before and you haven't , take everything they say , with a grain of salt, remember compliments, forget the insults .

I agree with the other ladies, if the midwife isn't worried then try not to yourself.
I got married at 16wks and my tum was still flat, I was hoping for a bit of a bump but was not to be
I was in my pre preg clothes my whole pregnancy (jeans and a singlet every day lol) and I got lots of those comments too, and up until 29wks I had only put on 5kg I also began to think I was too small and would have a tiny baby, but Ashlyn was 8lb 11oz to my great surprise. I put it down to everyone carrying differently as said previously.
All the best for the rest of your pregnancy

dont ya just hate interfering people, lol! I'm sure bubs and you are perfectly healthy and gaining weight fine. I was small with my first until about 7 months, then I got the 'oh you're so big" comments of some people and the opposite from others.

Not adding anything new, but also at work (retail) i had people saying how small i was and then the next person would say how big i was. i gave up caring in the end, just shrugged it off, said my boy is just the right size.

Thanks heaps for the replies ladies- makes me feel a lot better.....and that my littl girl is growing exactly how she should! I see my mw on Wednesday so will ask her but last time she said I was growing fine (looks and weight wise) so can't imagine anything will be too different.
Also....just between you and me....I quite like my bump! It definately feels like all baby now whereas before there was some of my squishiness there lol

Don't stress! I'm 29 weeks pg with #4 and I have put on a mega 6kg LOL. So it's nothing to do with weight, really. Your mw will be measuring your fundal height and that's the biggest thing. Also you must have recently had a scan and confirmed dates, presumably all is good and your baby's measurements were roughly equal to your EDD. So then you know you're just putting on baby and no weight. Niiiiice - well it's gotta pay off afterwards
My mw commented to me that I have a tallish trunk area and hold my babies well inside. It took a long time for me to properly show (and grow out of my pre-maternity clothes) and that's really all it is. Also shorter women by now would feel the odd kick in their ribs but my baby has a long way to go - and yet my fundal height is fine.
Hope that eases your concerns!

Yes it does thanks busymum. My mw has always said I'm right where I should be, I mean she's never pulled out a tape measure but we listen to bubba's heartbeat every time adn she has a feel around my tummy. And I assume she or the sonographer would've said if our little girl looked small (which I didn't think she did at all), so I think all is good. She is starting to kick quite hard when I'm lying down so she's at least strong lol

You know - from your description of your height and the fact that baby is a good size, i'd put it down to the fact that you have alonger body therefore more room for baby to be able to stretch out up/downwards before having to go outwards!
don't stress, everyone is different. with my first i got to about 29 weeks and a nursing placement i went on i had ben there about a week when we were talking one day and i said something about the baby and they go "what baby?" to which i then explained i was pregnant and only had 10 weeks to go! i wasn't overly big.
your baby sounds healthy, your midwife would tell you if she thought you weren't measuring right.
Enjoy and stop stressing - and when someone else says something about it tell them baby has alot of space to fill before it starts pushing outwards. or just put a spin on it and say at least you'll be back to normal pretty quick! lol

Definitely nothing to worry about - if the size of the baby is fine, that's all that matters. I carried small to the point where people just thought I was a bit fat around the middle when I was 3 weeks off giving birth. Topsy and I from the Dec 07 thread had really really small bellies.
Oh and you can have a big belly and have a tiny baby too, so just tell them to shut up. I used to get told by one person who small I was, and then by another how large I was People are idiots.
