Topic: 6 week scan - heartbeat? Posted: 08 December 2008 at 12:05pm |
When did you first see a heartbeat?
Is 6 weeks an ok time to have a scan in the hopes of seeing a heartbeat or is it better to wait until 7?
I'm trying to decide when to have a scan! I'm not sure of my dates I has had ovulation symptoms for 7 days. I got a BFP 2 weeks ago yesterday but am not sure exactly how far along I am. I feel 6 weeks i.e. my nausea is now in full swing etc.
I've booked a scan for Thurs this week but am wondering if I should postpone until next mon.

If you have the patience I'd wait, I was bang on six weeks (well, 6w2d) and they *just* managed to see the hb via internal scan - so if I'd been a bit further along maybe the picture would have been a little clearer. Good luck with deciding!

We had a heartbeat at 5 w 4 d. Probably best to wait though as it will stress you out if you can't see one.

We saw ours at 7w1d ... which doesn't really help you except for perhaps encouraging you to wait *if* you can?

With this pregnancy a heartbeat of 114bpm was found at 5w 5d. But this varies greatly...some dont see the heartbeat so early, some do.
But if your like me, you'll be impatient and go this week lol
Sorry not much help aye

My doc said better to wait till 7 weeks and then there will definitely be one, at 6 weeks it could go either way and even if they don't see one its not necessarily a problem. I was 7w 2d and the heartbeat was seen clearly via tummy scan.
And congratulations

I heard the heartbeat at both my 10w scan and 13w scan.. wonder if its the machine they use? we can hear it on our DVD too, but you have to have headphones on or listen VERY carefully.

I'd just go with what is booked. Even if they can't see the heartbeat yet (which I think is 50/50) they'll be able to tell from all the measurements whether everything is okay. Besides, I'm not very patient

If you can hang on an extra few days, I'd probably wait. I couldn't wait and got it done at 6 weeks by my calculations - no heartbeat on internal. If I'd known what I know now, I would have panicked! I'm just no good at delayed gratification!

Just using measurements does not tell you if your baby is ok. You can still have all the measurements and no heartbeat and an unviable pregnancy.

I'm *pretty* sure I was about 6 weeks when we first saw the heartbeat via 'dildo cam' (hahaha I love that )
I'd be rubbish at waiting too but being a bit early and not seeing it would freak me out too so I guess go with your gut instinct as you know how you will cope best either way. I'm sure it will be fine this time.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to wait until Monday. Without getting too excited to have a reasonably good feeling about this one. This week is soooo busy I'm pretty sure I can cope with waiting. I really want to see the heartbeat as then I was [almost] completely relax.
