OK so this morning when DH bought the boy in to me I immediately smelt like a diarrhoea type poo... changed his nappy and it was more runny than usual but not totally runny (not like newborn poop) but it had that 'different' smell to it. Sorry gross I know but kind of sweet?

Anyway so that was at 8am and at 9.30am he had another dirty nappy, the same, and had a bit of mucous in it as well. He's usually a one dirty nappy a day boy and it's usually quite solid.

He's really happy though and is currently just sitting in the sun talking to himself and playing with his blocks... he doesn't seem 'sick'. He's had 2 teeth come through, well they're well through the skin but are still little.

The reason I'm concerned about it (usually I wouldn't be!) is that we're supposed to be going to our friend's engagement party this afternoon (DH is best man) and there will be other babies and kids there.

Does it sound like something that could be contagious or just one of those random things?

TIA!

My 7 month DD had this last week - started off with runny diarrhoea, a bit mucousy, but she was still happy enough. Next day she still had runny poos, wasn't feeding very well and vomited a couple of times. Took her to the doctor several times over the weekend as she then started to refuse her bottles Doctor said it was a virus, and it's only now a week later DD is back to eating normally etc - the diarrhoea lasted for about 4-5 days. A few others from my coffee group have also had the same thing in the last month.

I wouldn't neccessarily cancel this afternoon, but would suggest keeping bubs away from the other babies and children.

Thanks Febgirl

Urgh, I REALLY hope it doesn't turn into anything, we're still getting over that nasty cold that's going around

ETA: Just had a thought..... I'm on antibiotics, I wonder if that could have something to do with it.....

Lovely way to wake up! I'd wonder about the antibiotics - they often have the effect of either making you prone to vomitting or diahorrea (sp?).

Jack had gastro which started like that. I personally wouldn't have him round other kids as that's how Jack caught it, then started vomitting 2 days later, and a week later now is just coming right.

So anyway, let us know how you got on and how Harry's feeling. Hope it's just a side effect of your AB's and nothing else. And make sure you wash and disinfect your hands every time you change his nappy.

How is Harry today? One other symptom I forgot to mention is that DD's nappies smelt like something crawled in there and died - a bit graphic but they were definately smellier than normal, another giveaway that it was a tummy bug/virus.

Thanks guys - well no more poopy nappies today! Harry had no more yucky nappies yesterday since that third one. So we took him but didn't let him get up close and personal with the other bubbas (usually he likes giving big sloppy kisses). He's had no more since then so *hopefully* it was just one of those random things. Maybe cos of the antibiotics.

sounds similar to what Megan had today..she woke in screaming earlier on tonight gave her some pamol and yeah her nappy too was less solid than normal and had a different smell to it.

I am thinking I might not take her to swimming lessons tomorrow.

if your worried take him to docs but it seems normal and my boy at that age did it so bad it went all up his back had about 3 baths a day...........usually teething or solids......there little tummies are just getting use to it...if no other symptoms (eg not as active and temp )keep up the fluids.
