So all going to plan we will have about 18 months between kids. We have 3 bedrooms but the smallest room is the study with all my teaching stuff and DH's army stuff in it. No way to fit a kid in there whatsoever. We will have #2 in our room until we get sick of the hedgehog-like noises again (was 6 weeks with Jack) but then what do you do? Do you pu #2 in with #1 and hope that it doesn't wake up the older child? Do you put #2 in the study just in a cot and transfer to the shared bedroom later on?

What have you done for your kids who share? Has it worked well or been a complete disaster?

I'm sure this will be helpful to other ladies on here who are planning on having kids close together too.

And sorry if this has already been done, the search function never works for me for some reason so I couldn't look for it. TIA

I bumped a good one for you Emz.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I put Charlotte in her basinette in our teeny tiny office, along with all the other crap (washing, work stuff etc) till she was almost one and we could swap SS room with hers (he was hardly coing by then anyhow, can fit a small bed in office) . It was a squash, but we worked round it, she was in with us for about a month? I ws going to share my 2, but they both still wake at night, so decided not to. Will probably in the near future though, they like doing everything together, she gets into bed with him when its his bed time etc.

emz we are in the same situation! 3 bedrooms, two are tiny (one jam-packed office and Chloe's room is not that big either). Would love to know what age your bubbas started sharing rooms and how it went.
Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years).

We moved Anastasia out of our room at about 5-6mths, have a large old style crib & she went into the 3rd b/room by herself for about a year while in cot and when we moved her to a bed we moved her in with Ashlyn and found that Ashlyn actually slept better with her in there.  Anastasia did for a while but she still sometimes wakes at night but unless something is wrong or they are sick one almost never wakes the other during the night.......different story in the morning tho!!

Cooper is still in with us, and I've had enough now. The older two kids have quite big bedrooms, my problem is that Cooper doesn't sleep thru quite yet, he'll have a good run one week and the next week he'll wake up around 4. Out of the two rooms he'd have to go in with Nyah.

If it was me, I'd put baby in with you to start with, then move into the study??....

I'd give it a go and see what happens. In my experience it depends how many sleeps the kids have during the day and their waking-up temperament hehe. Toddlers seem to sleep through baby wakes at nights, mostly.

Well we all live in a one bedroom house and so all have no choice but to share a room. (I guess there is always the lounge but I kinda enjoy having them close) I got used to them pretty quickly so noises dont bother me too much.

I was so worried having to have a newborn in with a todler but surprisingly it went really well. The first night DD#1 was awake most of the night, mainly because she was so excited she just wanted to see her new sister. She quickly got over that and now sleeps through anything. DD#2 hasn't had it anyother way so now sleeps through anything. The sleep in bunks so are pretty close together.
It does work out pretty well that Maddi doesnt wake much in the night and isnt a screamer, and goes to sleep without much fuss.

I've been wondering about this too, we're in a 3 bedroom and the 3rd room is tiny and has windows all along three of the walls so is freezing in winter - not suitable for anyone to sleep in. DD2 is still in a bassinette in our room and it's fine, but the way she's growing she won't fit in the bassinette for much longer and we can't fit a cot in there. I'm just hoping DD1 grows out of her 'hit the baby' phase before we have to move them in together - I'd be worried about DD2 getting attacked in the middle of the night!

I have just put Greer in with Hannah. First two mornings they woke each other up at 5.30am, but now we;ve got rid of where the light was coming in they both sleep til 7. Hannah goes to bed at 6.30pm and is asleep when Greer goes at 7, so no noght probs so far. I just waited until G was sleeping all night consistently. Before that she was in the tiny cold front room with heater on constantly, which we dont need to use now.

ah aimeejoy, that sounds like a plan! The only thing I worry about is Jack is a really bad teether, and is only now waking at 6.30 (from 5am the last two months - although before that slept through 7-7 from 9 weeks). I guess you just have to play it by ear though.

Theres no way I could have my two together even now. They both still wake at night and are both light sleepers. Jack also tries to pick Caprece up and jump on her so he just couldn't be trusted. Maybe when shes in a bed they might be able to share.

We had Caprece in our room for about 5 months and then she got put in our spare room full of all our crap. I finally cleared it out and made it a baby room when she was about 8 months.

You really just have to wait and see what kind of children they are.
