How do i do this. Whats the best way?
Iv just put Kylah down for her first sleep without it. She didnt cry ans it only took her 40min to get herself to sleep..
I know its not going to be this easy.. is it?

Good luck! I am really hoping Tom will wean himself off his. He was in our bed on Sunday and dropped it under the bed. I couldnt be bothered getting it. Well!!!! He got himslef so worked up he was almost vomiting so DH had to crawl under and find it....instant peace and sleep!
He only has it for sleep so I figure....why bother right now.

The worst part is.. i dont think shes going to let me take it away.
She cant be left to cry because she forces herself to vomit everywhere. She gags, chokes then vomits and chokes on that. Its like she knows how to get the better of us.
Kylah gets like that without it too Nikki.. Thought id try and see how we go and if not i will wait.

It only took one nap time to get my daughter off her dummy. I thought it would be best to wean her off during the day rather than try at night when i was tired. She was about 14 months though so slightly older than Kylah.
good luck.

Kylah has started waking for it during the night, if i dont find it within a certain amount of time then it takes hours to get her to sleep

Keziah weaned herself off her dummy.. she can't stand it in her mouth now and gags until she can grab it to pull it out OR it falls out from the rapid head movements LOL but when she DID need it, we would get up 4 or 5 times a night to put the bloody thing back in

neeks so you didnt find any way to stop it? she just stopped wanting it one day?(hope E is like that) he wants it less most of the time but always settles with it when wakes in the night.. haven ttried him unwrapped with his muzzie at night.. and limited success during the day so mostly safety sleeped and wrapped and dummied:)
Kandice- I know how that feels .. :(!!!

There's two ways that I know of:
1) cold turkey. Took Jack two days and it was terrible but now he's fine, he still has a whinge when he goes to sleep but most of the time its only a few minutes, and its not crying. He just sucks on his toys instead
2) Pierce holes in the dummy (do 1 the first day, 2 the next, etc etc) and over time the dummy becomes useless for them because they don't get the satisfaction of the comfort sucking. Also reduce the use of it at day sleeps before night sleeps.
Good luck whatever way you decide to do it though! It's probably not going to be easy, but after Jack waking up 7 times one night, I chucked them out and haven't looked back.

we managed to ditch the dummy by slicing small amounts off it every few days...so that is wasn't the same feeling in her mouth. It took about two weeks for her to reject it herself.
We also changed the spouts on her bottles to a sipper one so that the teats didn't replace her dummy.

good luck mums, I too need to think about getting rid of the dummy but Ella only has it to get to sleep, then it falls out during the course of the naps. Only in the night it can be a bother, having to get up to put it back in..........I like the idea of cutting the ends off so it doesn't give the same satisfaction. Great idea!!!

I started getting rid of the dummy during day sleeps. Started with the first sleep of the day, then a few days later, the next sleep until he was sleeping during the day without it. We then did the night time, there was a LOT of crying , but it only took a few nights.
We did this a few months ago and have never looked back
Good luck!

We are in the process of weaning, too.
For a week now she's not had it for daytime naps. The first time I put her down without it she cried for 9 minutes then dropped off. After that she's been just fine without it (a minute or two if sad little whimpers every now and then, but asleep within 5 mins)
Putting her down for the night is a different story.
So we're waiting for her to be 100% during the day before we attempt the night time weaning.
Same if she wakes in the night, her dummy will go back in and I walk out. But that only happens once or twice a week, so that's not a worry.
Once that's sorted, we'll start weaning the wrapping

It's been 5 mins and he's screaming

I went in and when I started singing he stopped crying, but as soon as I stopped he started screaming again and kept looking at my hand, looking for the dummy
