cough?

I have lost my voice and now the cough has started and its that dry tickling barking cough that you cant stop once you start.  I have gone through a packet of barley sugars already.  does anyone know if you can take strepsils?

**hugs** I know how you feel, I had this with my last pregnancy and the pharmacist told me I could have the plain lemon strepsils, but I found they did nothing at all for my cough, the tickle stayed there and I sounded like a seal when i coughed.

I found the best thing i could do was to stay away from foods and drinks that made the phlem worse cos thats what causes the tickle. So no chocolate or coffee or anything like that, I drank heaps of water and had honey drinks for my sore throat and runny nose etc, i had the full on headcold with the cough, it sucked so badly.

honey is good for a dry cough, you can have a spoonful when you are extra dry and coughy. Works (for a little while) for me.

Comvita cough lozenges are fine, the active ingrediant is manuka honey which is a natural antibiotic. They can be bought at the supermarket and pharmacy.

If you have a specialty honey store close by you can also buy bee balls (lollies made with manuka honey) these are good for your throat too.

Also try drinking hot blackcurrant (thick with cordial) and/or hot lemon, honey and ginger (thick with honey).
