Hi,
It is quite likely now that I will be induced later this week.  Does anyone know if being induced runs a higher risk of ending up having to have a C-Section?

I have had 2 inductions and 2 VB's. They can run the risk if your body is not ready to give birth.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think you run the risk of more interventions, not necessarily a c-section, hence why OB's like you to wait I guess. I was induced at 12 days overdue with only a slightly 'favourable' cervix and had to have a c-section (though I had a posterior baby who wouldn't engage which didn't help things  )

I was induced early and had a VB although did end up with vontouse(?spelling)but that was more to do with high BP and not being able to push for longer than 20 minutes due to it going up again.
I loved being induced. No stress or worry about when to get to the hosp etc.

I was induced 2 1/2 weeks early due to bub being small. My body wasnt really ready for labour so it took quite awhile. I was starting to think i would end up having a cs but in the end once things got started it all happened really fast.
I think the main reason for needing a cs is if your induced and things start happening but then it takes a long time, then you may need a cs if you or baby end up getting stressed at any time.

I was induced (gel only, no sintocinon) a week and a half early for pre-eclampsia, and had a 4 hour (albeit very intense) perfectly natural labour, so not neccessarily, but I think it can up your chances.

my history of inductions has been great, i just really was hoping for a spontaneous labour this time and i got it! woohoo!!! i only didnt want to be induced because i wanted to see if my body could actually do its thing on its own and i now have faith that my body can 
anyway!!
my 3 inductions were really good. i was never favourable.
-my first i had the one dose of gel and did need the drip after a while but it was my first birth.
-second i had the one dose of gel and things went smoothly and fast- my waters got broken for me thats the only other intervention i had
-third the one dose again of gel i wasnt very favourable at all this time... waters were broken again for me, kayla's heart rate did start dropping during contractions so i was worried about having to have a cs but she came out fast and was fine.
to me being induced was natural! lol, so it doesnt bother me in any sense (other than like i said i was just really hoping for spontaneous birth this time which i got, JUST!) others may feel different about their experiences though...
to answer you question... i know of HEAPS of people to of been induced - in my family alone out of 10 births only 4 have been spontaneous labours the others induced and non ended in a section (except one of the spontaneous births because of prosterior position etc..) so i dont "think" it increases risk too much.

My induction last time was two weeks early due to high BP. I was worried about the whole cascade of intervention then too, leading to a possible c-section. I think induction does increase your chances of intervention - once they start one thing if it doesn't work it's on to something else etc. and so it can increase the chance of a c-section. But I've heard more stories of women who went ahead and had VBs than C-sections with inductions.
You can also set the ground rules with your mw/the hospital and insist on giving your body as much time as possible to get going. I had the gel only, three applications over two days. First lot was early Saturday morning, then again Saturday evening, then again mid-Sunday morning. That didn't feel like it did much, didn't get contractions going really, but by Sunday evening I was 3cm dialated and they broke my waters. The amount of gel I'd had and the amount of time it had been given to be absorbed by my body meant that the breaking of the waters sent me into full-on labour straight away and DD was born about two hours later. No other interventions needed.
You can have a lot of say in what you do with an induction. I think we got left for so long in part because the hospital was really busy and we got forgotten but it worked in our favour. Good luck with whatever happens!

my doctor said and i quote' having an induction increases the chance of intervention particularly your chance of having a c-section so we will give you a sweep and hopefully I won't endup red-faced if you do indeed need an induction' as i had a favourable cervix he was saying he hopes he isnt wrong as i was rushed down for induction due to high BP low platelets etc and then he swept me and sent me away adn he did end up redfaced as the next day i was rushed to be induced again...sigh anyway my indcution experience was ok ...mind you i had a favourable cervix and in the end after two applications i had an emergency c-section but that as due to feotal distress.

I was induced at 4 days overdue and went on to have a very speedy labour and normal VB. While yes, my OB did say that the chances were increased of a CS, most other people I know that have been induced have actually had a normal VB.

Just jumping in real quick - do you get to choose between the gel and the drip? (sorry to hijack) I'm concerned as I dont want to be sent home from the hospital as I live so far from it (1hr+) and i'm worried that as soon as I get home, labour will start lol..

all i did to get it favourable was lots of walking (normally not possible with PE but i didnt quite have it...lol) Missangel..i didnt have a choice..i got gel twice.. i got a hormone drip somewhere along the labour way though?

I'll ask when i'm at the hospital, but yea. Seeing as they're actually going to be nice and induce me (cuz i'm not counting on the c-section) I just wanna know what choice I have. I've written the question down so I dont forget as well! Did they send you home tho? Thats the thing I worry about.

I got the gel first thing and wasnt favourable but they didn't send me home, they made me stay at the hospital. But I did start having contractions about an hour after the gel and was put onto the drip a couple of hours later.

i would be surprised if they sent you home..i didnt know it was possible...once we got induced all 5 of us stayed overnight in the assessment rooms at CWH.. i was the most ....sick i guess but none of the others got sent home either.. they were all overdue though except me (2 weeks early) missangel - so they still wont let you have a c-section?:(

haha of course they wont.
They keep saying the usual 'its so stressful on your body' and other normal crap. I'd rather go thru the pain and healing of the c-section, than have my hip dislocate and be permanently damaged tbh. Its nuts. But on the lighter side, at least they're inducing me early so I get to have Thomas here earlier and go on proper pain meds :D

Thomas..cool name:) so you may end up c section anyway..its just crazy with your leg/hip issues they would make you do VB:(!! or worse labour and then c-section..now that's stressful!!:)
