Topic: Eek! I think its almost time! Posted: 26 December 2007 at 12:16pm |
I think Jett needs to start solids . He was sleeping through the night, but recently he's waking almost every night to be fed. Sometimes as early as around 1am. Not liking that at all.
Also tends to want to be fed more regularly during the day. He'll be 17 weeks on Friday - 4 mths. The other 2 started solids around this time too as where doing the same thing. I thought I'd wait for hungry signs like the other 2 showed, & I think he's definitely showing them.
I don't mind that he needs to be on solids, it just means more work for me, but if it means he'll sleep through the night again, I'll be more than happy!

Maybe thats what we need to do too. tom has been very wakeful at night the last couple of weeks. It is so tiring. but he doesnt seem too interested in food that we are eating. he does have excellent head control though. I was hoping to wait till 5 months

I know, it comes around so quickly! It's all been a bit of blur. I would love it if he could wait till 5/6 mths, but I have hungry babies that grow fast, so can't hold out that long.
My plunket nurse suggested I start him on kumera as it's sweeter than the other veges. I've always started my kids on fruit - pears. Then when they've started eating twice a day I start them on vege's.
Any other suggestions??

Hehehe you sound like an experienced mum!!
Don't start with banana - some kids get constipated on it (I found out for #3...). Pears or kumara is how I'd start.

After Tom threw a paddy wanting more booby only 30min after his last feed I thought maybe its worth a try. We tried avocado and he seemed to like it. Screwed up his face at first and then shoved his fingers in his mouth and smiled.

Yay that's great Nikki! I was about to do the same thing tonight, as Jett would cry after I took the boob out of his mouth. He never does that. But I wondered also if he wanted it just to comfort him as I think he was overtired. Also it was almost his bedtime so I didn't want to give him solids now, just incase he reacted to any of it. So tomorrow, lunchtime, I will try it & see how we go!

I started Ella on baby rice and then after a couple of days gave her some kumera, which she loved. I introduced fruit to her a couple of weeks after she had started solids.

I think a lot of babies start waking again at about 4mths so hopefully it will settle down soon. Not sure what causes it but it often does settle down without the need for solids. :)
Hope you get some good sleeps soon

So I gave Jett some solids about an hour ago. He even got excited just seeing me walk to him with the spoon & cup in my hand, as if he knew what was coming! He happily opened his mouth for the spoon (anything & everything he can get his hands on goes in the mouth anyway so I knew getting him to open his mouth for the spoon wouldn't be a problem). He really screwed his face up with the first taste, but otherwise really seemed to enjoy it! YAY!
Dh ran to get the camera as soon as I told him it was his first taste of solids, so here's a few pic's of the milestone!
Love the look on this one
Hmm, wonder if my bib is ediable?
Arrh, that wasn't so bad, what's next mum?

i tried james on farex and he hated it, anything else though and it doesnt get refused. he loves his meat lamb esp

Aww what gorgeous pics Italiah. he has gorgy blue eyes. Yay for solids
Monique you poor thing. I just dont understand the whole starve the baby thing. I always just went with my gut feeling and the hungry signs of my baby. I did get told off from plunket for giving Alize his 1st solids at 13wks old but I just took it with a grain of salt..

Yeah I would never have given him solids if I didn't think he needed it. I wish he could hold off for another month or so, but I sort of knew he'd be like my older 2 & need it at 4 mths. I will hold off from giving him baby rice til 6 mths though, just keep him on fruit & veges til then.

I was exactly like you and wanted to hold off till at least 5mths as Mercedes wasnt really till 6mths but Alas Alize wanted to be like his oldest sister and start early. I think you have done a fantastic job and did what was best for your boy!!
