Strangers

Ha ha, Chiara was licking the shed floor at SIL's yesterday so I'm pretty sure she's good with people touching her. It doesn't really bug me much altho I did have a wee evil giggle at the random lady who came up and started pawing her when she was in the Moby at Billy Joel - at the time Chiara was still in the infectious stage of having chickenpox, that'll teach randoms for pawing her!

And totally agree re: the travelling freak show. I thought it was bad when I had Maya and the gremlins. It was worse when I had Maya, the gremlins and a baby belly but now that I have Maya, the gremlins and Chiara people don't even try to hide the fact that they're staring. And for the most part I don't mind, it makes little old ladies days to talk to them, but the ones who look down their nose with a "don't you know where babies come from?" kind of look that annoy me.

I had a lady at church once say to me "they can't be all yours, you're not old enough!" And not in a "you look really young" kinda way, but in a "young, solo mother on the DPB" kinda way, especially when her next question was "so where is your husband?" Fortunately for me I am fairly assertive. I put her back in her box rather abruptly by telling her Willie doesn't go to church and yes, they ARE all mine.

Afterwards I was kicking myself tho - I sooooo should have said "no, only one of the twins is mine, I don't know who the other one belongs to?" .

I'm getting those horrid comments too, Emma. Why do people think it is any of their business to pull faces and/or comment on other people's family size choice? (Or not, in your case LOL ) We get, "how are you going to educate them all" and "are you going to have any more" most often - not too intrusive but they are personal questions and strangers should learn to hold their tongues!! Besides, we don't know! - of course we have a rough plan but how that actually pans out is only for the future to know.

PMSL, Emma... oh, you so should have said that!! I thought the random touchy lady at Billy Joel pretty odd too. She'd be in for a nasty surprise if she's not immune!
Ella invited a lot of attention, like they all do, and I still remember the first time I took her through a checkout and no-one working there stopped their job to coo over her - I arrived home muttering 'what, can you people not see how sweet she is?!? Come ON!'... guess I'd gotten way too used to the routine of stop and talk to strangers thanks to Ella.

Funny, T... I'm one of those awful finger-chewers!! Ha ha... ah, I must try to remember that when your next one comes along though. If a friend's kid grabs my finger to chew, I give them the middle knuckle and let them go to town... I guess I can see how that'd be gross though, come to think of it!

That was what I was worried about too Bext1. I tried to keep them away from people and was particularly annoyed when people wanted to touch or hold them and didnt tell me they were sick with colds etc. Not so much of a problem now that they are vaccinated and a lot older.

I do not mind people looking or asking questions...it is quite flattering however I do not like people touching (Sophia does not like strangers - good girl) or giving us advice. They only advise DH, like when we were in the warehouse one time, an old lady deliberately waked up to DH and told him our baby should be wrapped up...It was stinking hot and he was carrying her....he just said thank you and walked off....if it was me i would have given her a piece of my mind about minding ones own business....Poor DH is such a softie.

Thanks for this forum I had no idea!! Our first will be here in april and I do get a lot of people trying to touch my belly but wow I could never imagine picking up or touching anothers baby with out an ok, I mean really what ever happened to personal space LOL
