Topic: Sleep and routines, help!!!! Posted: 18 February 2008 at 7:45pm |
I need some advice from you....
My DD is now 5 and half months old and we have had a fairly consistent routine going.
Her routine has been as follows, wake at 6.30am, fed, playtime for an hour and then back to sleep, wake at about 9.30 to 10am, fed at 10.30am (have tried feeding her earlier but she won't take it!) Has her solids at 11am and then should go back back down for a nap at noon, doesn't always happen. If she does sleep, she wakes at 2pm and I feed her, if not I still feed her at 2pm. Then comes the fun bit...
She stays awake from 2pm, she has her bath at 5.30pm and her massage after this and fed at 6pm, she usually falls asleep during this and then wakes an hour later and she wants to then stay awake! We have tried to bath her earlier and then hope that she stays asleep but this hasn't worked!
Her bedtime has always been 7pm and we have worked out a routine to go along with that and it has worked well up till last week, around the same time as the solids were introduced and things have went haywire!
Is it worth changing her bedtime so it is later, then gradually change it as she gets older and let her have that sleep at teatime?? Or should I try to keep it the same??
Sorry long post!!

Maybe try giving her a late afternoon nap? When Ella was that age she normally had a nap from4-5- she had milk feed before the nap and then when she woke up she had dinner. It is only in the last 2-3 weeks that Ella has dropped that nap.

Yep try a short nap in the afternoon. Saying that Madison had dropped her afternoon nap, so i adjusted her bedtime. Her routine if you are interested is:
7am - wake up and milk feed
8am - solids
9:30am - sleep
11am - wake up(if still asleep) and milk feed
12noon - solids
1:15pm - sleep
3pm - wake up and milk feed
5:15pm - solids
6pm - bath
6:20pm - milk feed
7pm - bed
Hope this helps, i follow the save our sleep routines which have been great for a good basis of routines.

What if you dropped the solids say for two days and see if that makes a difference? Supplement her solid meals with a drink.
There could be a number of reasons why she is doing this:
Wind - from the solids is making her uncomfortable. Could be effecting her reflux?
Teeth?
Growth Spurt?
She's not dehydrated?
Coopers naps are 9.30, 1 and 4 bed between 7-7.30. With no solids as he's not interested, and I'm not forcing the issue...
It may be a case of trial and error for a couple of days and she'll probably go back to her normal routine before you know it.
Good luck

She is very happy and content! Tonight she fell asleep after her feed and then woke up an hour later so we left her and she went to sleep at 8pm after we had cuddled her and read to her and has been asleep since then, maybe she is adjusting her routine!

great teamwork girls. Yay Baby kiwi on that working! :)
Tyde used to need that 'short' late afternoon nap to be able to handle dinner etc.. otherwise everything would fall to bits, he wouldnt have dinner or a bottle and then would wake hungry in the middle of the night...
all the best! :)
