Topic: Removing Copper Coil (IUD) - experiences? Posted: 29 May 2010 at 9:43am |
DH and I have decided to take the plunge with TTC #2 and of course like most of us now that I've been given the green light I wanna get started asap and have booked in to see the nurse next Thursday to get my coil removed (only day I can get someone to watch DS, some things toddlers shouldnt be party to LOL)... only issue I've realised is that we are going on holiday the next day, driving 3hrs and then another 3hrs the day after that.
Is there a lot of bleeding involved when you have the coil removed? Will I feel terrible? AF is due a few days after the day I've made the appointment for, so not the best timing with the holiday but there you go, so by getting the coil taking out just before that we've got a shot at my next ovulation which I know would be freakishly lucky to get preggy on first cycle but you've got to be in to win right LOL
I dont really mind the pain side, nothing a few nurophen wont cure but its the bleeding I guess that would be most inconvenient.

I have had 2 removed, you get a little cramping, sorta like when they put it in, and i had a tiny bit of spotting, nothing like having AF at all. As far as feeling terrible goes i think you will feel fine, well i did anyway.
Mine was quicker and less sore to remove than it was to get put in.
Take a couple of neurophen or panadol before hand.

I had mine out a couple of months ago, got it taken out a few hours before a 4 hour drive - I was fine - light bleeding only

I'm glad you asked this, I need to get mine out soon too but keep putting it off coz I'm scared it won't be much fun, lol! Sounds like it's not too bad though, good luck for your appointment

Apparently it hurts less by getting it out when you have AF as your cervix is open.
I had mine taken out 6 weeks after it was put in & I didn't feel a thing. I had visions of having to held my self on the bed while the Dr tugged it out LMAO

i had light bleeding for a couple of days after but it was very light. and AF was also lighter then it had even been after i got it out (though i didnt get AF when i had it in)

Hiya hun good luck for ttcing number 2 I am a little bit of a different case as I got pregnant on mine and had it taken out while pregnant after they had done a scan they decided to rather than leave it in. I felt that it was a rather sharp pain and mine lasted for maybe 5 minutes, I didn't have heavy bleeding or anything though just light bleeding for a wee while afterwards (but I had it before that anyways)
Good luck hun ;)

Ah that is very reassuring ladies, thank you! The bleeding when it was put in was full on so was worried would be like a hideous AF upon removal, a little bit of spotting aint no bother thanks for sharing!

I didn't feel anything at all when mine was removed apart from a slight tickly feeling as it was pulled through the cervix. Definitely not painful.
I was freaking out too because mine hurt sooo much when I had it put in.
