Im only 21wks and already have terrible hip pain. Today I am struggling to walk at all and when I lie down it is a constant dull pain. It is in the groin region, really deep( in the socket maybe?). Anyway, has anyone else experienced this and what did you do? I need to get around some way!

Well if you were later in your pg I would say it's the baby's head but since you're just halfway, it could just be the baby sitting on a nerve or who knows lol. Are you getting cramps in your legs? In which case it could be a lack of sodium (salt)/magnesium in your diet. I would try a warm bath to see if that relieves the pressure.

You can always call your mw btw, if it's really bad she may know some remedies or reasons quicker than waiting for responses on here

Hey, i got that pain and sorry to say it didnt go away untill i was like 35 weeks.. they called it the Sacroiliac joint. The only way to easy the pain i to see a physio person and they can give you a support belt.. I could barely walk with mine and sometimes even had me in tears..

I don't have it but a friend thats due at the same time does and her MW has referred her for physio and said that that should help sort it out.

Sounds like a joy of pregnancy!

Topsy I pretty much permanently have this pain you describe since about 8 weeks. Sometimes I can barely walk, but after 5 minutes of getting my leg moving it comes right and is just a dull pain. I thought at first it was a varicos vain in the groin, but the m/w told me last week it is a sciatic nerve and the babies weight resting on it.

Peachy, that sounds about right as the baby is sitting really low. I can sometimes feel no pain at all and just walk fine but then all of a sudden it kicks in and Im a cripple for 5mins. Then fine for a little while then cripple again.......... It was really embarrasing when I went to Farmers and it would happen- I let out a yelp and people stared. I hope it dosnt get worse!! Thanks for your replys guys

Yep I've had the pain pretty much since 12weeks - my MW got me to start taking fish oil early and that seemed to help. But occasionally it's pretty bad.

It sounnds like maybe a sciatic nerve problem?

If it is pelvic floor muscles etc then yup, totally get where you're coming from. I've had this since early on too. Hot showers work temporarily, same as a wheatie bag. But if it continues get your MW to refer you to the maternity physio people to get a support belt.
Hope you feel better soon.

More than likely, this is what's known as symphisis pubis dysfunction. Basically, when you're pregnant, your hips spread and your ligaments soften to allow things to "open up" for labour, but some women don't spread evenly -- one or both sides go wonky, putting you in terrible pain. Your midwife should be able to give you a referral to a physiotherapist, who can fit you for a support belt. Some women need crutches toward the end of pregnandy, as the problem is exacerbated by the baby's position and the extra weight you're carrying. Talk to your midwife -- I know it's painful (I had it, and so did our other writer, Emma) and it's awful, but there are things you can do to get relief.

Topsy mine often occurs when I just get out of bed and happens most night. It is so bad I can barely walk, then it comes right if I just walk through it. It's a pain especially with how many times I have to get up and go to the toilet through the night! I find if I walk through it and try to ignore it, the pain get alot duller and more quickly than if I stop and take a seat or rest.

I have had pain everywhere since about 20wks, my hips, lower back, groin. The best thing which has helped me through my pregnancies is a chiropractor.
