Ok so theres proberly not alot of ppl that can answer this but i just got my bloods in the post, my midwife wanted me to get my liver function tested.. So i opened them and im no doctor and i dont understand half of it but the ones in bold i guess are bad..
it says my Alk. Phos. is up at 210! reccommended is between 20 - 105..
I googled it and it says something along these lines:
This enzyme is a marker of poor bile flow. ALP levels are elevated in a large number of disorders that affect the drainage of bile. This is the test most often used to detect obstruction of the biliary system, a problem associated with progressive hepatitis C and related liver cell injury, sufficient to obstruct small bile ducts. ALP levels are also raised in case of gallstone disease, excessive alcohol intake and drug-induced hepatitis.
Any nurses or brainy people able to put it in blood for dummies language lol.

I wouldnt know what all the numbers mean. I got the liver function test and basically all they said was it wasnt normal lol.
This was after i complained about being sick and really really itchy.
You'd think id be able to help, but when doctors speak to me i listen, but it doesnt really sink
All that stuck in my mind was still births and inductions.
Basically, your MW should refer you to the hospital cause thats what happened when my liver function tests came back not normal or whatever heh.
Sorry im a bit useless arent i

Hi there! I work in a medical lab, and thought I could help. Are your other liver enzymes normal? I have done a quick google and found that ALP is produced by the placenta in late pregnancy, and will can be about 2 times normal (which yours is). Here's the link http://www.drkaslow.com/html/alkaline_phosphatase.html - Link
I would give your midwife or GP a call, and ask what they think. If you have any more questions, I can try and help, just PM me.

Just saw this now, im the cholestasis expert! lol I have had it twice, #1 born at 36 weeks and #2 born at 34 weeks.
Your ALK will be high if you are pregnant anyway so dont worry bout that, the ones you are looking for are ALT and AST. If these are high you need a Bile Salt test, this is what confirms Obstetric cholestasis. A great site is itchymoms.com has heaps of info and if you want to know more PM me
