Hehe who else called the Dental Clinic the Murder House? Crazy things we do & say as kids. It wasnt really that bad was it? Getting stickers & little ghost puppets etc to take our teeth home in
Anyway I was wondering when do you enroll & at what age do you first take your kids to the dentist? My plunket nurse mentioned something about enrolling Brae at his 2yr check but i cant remember & havent heard anything  Or is it something that happens when they are 3? ------------- Mummy of Two Boys B: 2004 K: 2007 |

Do you go to a public dentist or a school one? Maybe this is something i need to get on to right away?

| we went to a school dental nurse I didn't have to make an appointment they just made one for me at the closest one. Thats pretty slack of your plunket not giving you the form. |

Umm I am really bad Andrew hasn't been yet and he is 3 years. I filled in a form with the plunket nurse a week ago so i'm hoping that someone will call us. If they don't then next term i'll ring the local school one and he can go there. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I think you can just ring your local primary school and they will see you there. We took Kobe when he was one and then two even though he sees the hospital dental aswell. They dont do much but its good to get them used to it. I remember being terrified of getting the note to go to the dentist at school, drinking heaps of water on the way hoping my teeth would be clean!

i calle dit murder house to gloria.
lol i used to get terrified abot the dental nurse notes to. mine was lovely, although when she retired and bought a shop she used to tell me to show her my teeth everytime i saw her. quite embarrassign in a shop lol. i never got given a form from plunket (but then again ive had nothing but trouble with plunket in the lower hutt area), my plunket book for haleigh says 2yrs and james's one says 1. in OZ they dont book them in apparently till 4, but i will take haleigh in over there earlier. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I wandered into the dental nurse's clinic at Kiya's school about a year ago and enrolled Josiah. He had a couple of teeth at the time, and my plunket nurse said I should do it sooner rather than later. i havent heard anything about taking tash to the dentist/ infact we have been in putaruru for over a year now and despite leaving a number of messages i have still not heard anything from plunket.and i dont even know what school the dental nurse would be at.

I thought dental care was free up till you leave school
Seems confusing with all these different ages of when you should start taking toddlers to the dentist
I thought the baby teeth were most important? So i called my Well Child provider & pretty much got fobbed off & told someone will call me back soon GRRR Ah well!! I got a form from Plunket when I went in this week and she just told me to fill it out and take it to a local school. I was worried that Alyssa isn't ready for a dental nurse to be touching her yet as she hates strangers, but the lady said it's just to put her on the register...she won't be seen for ages anyway.
Anyway - back to the "murder house", yes we called it that in primary school too!! The worst thing is that every time that damn notebook came into class I KNEW it would be for me!! It seemed like I was getting a filling every week for ages and I cried every time! The thing was, by the time I was about 10, my mum took me to a proper dentist to fit a plate and he was absolutely shocked that I had so many fillings he said I definitely didn't need any of them! He rang my school dental nurse and blew her up until she was in tears! Apparently it was quite common for dental nurses to be so bored they would "practice" fillings on children and this dental nurse even admitted it to him. I feel annoyed that I still have fillings on some of my second teeth that shouldn't be there

pepsi, That is a crock of S**t and i am so offended! (not your story but what the dentist said)

Yeah well that was 20 years ago now that I had been to that dentist and who knows how many people over the years he shared his opinions with? All I know is that it pissed my mum off enough that I never went back to the dental nurse at school again after that, and coincidentally never had another filling until 1 a couple of years ago. I'm sure if it there was a big conspiracy of dental nurses giving unnecessary fillings in the 80's then it would have hit the news, so obviously he was most likely overeggagerating. As for the one dental nurse at my school, I guess I'll never know the truth. |

I do remember certain kids at primary who frequented the clinic more than others. Sadly or gladly I wasn't 1 of them!!
I had nice & natural straight teeth up until a car accident at 16. Then i got wired & cemented up. Still got the cement to hold my teeth together & too scared to go back to get it ground off

The dental nurse doesn't really do much just has a quick look and then tells u all about dental hygiene. We got a free toothbrush and stickers too

We got a form from Plunket at Emma Rose's 15-month well child check, along with a list of the local dental clinics and their phone numbers. I rang the nearest one right away and the dental nurse told me to ring back when Em was 18 months old to make an appointment. We had an 18-month Plunket check yesterday and the nurse asked again if we'd enrolled with a dental clinic, as getting an appointment can sometimes take a while. So I came home and rang up, and got an appointment for Monday! That said, it would probably be a good idea to do a bit of investigation on your own if you're not getting any info from your local Plunket or GP. Ring up the school dental clinic nearest you and ask the dental nurse when you should bring your baby in, and how long it takes to get an appointment. This might be one of those situations where we parents have to be a bit pushy to get things sorted! Good luck! |
