I was wondering about Doctor visits when your preg. I live in Rangiora and I don't have a doc. I haven't been sick in ages and only go to FPA for girly stuff when I need to. Soooo. I know Rangiora doc's are full - from what I understand you can go as a casual paitent but not as a permenant one. Do I just continue to go to FPA? or do I need to enroll at a doc's somewhere? oh, and is it free once your preg?

Sorry I can't answer your question, but had to mention. My DH was born in Rangiora. He want's to move back to the south Island one day, but far too cold for me.

Are there any mws down there? It might pay to call the FPA sometime for some local advice.

Hiya, I can't comment directly on you needing to enrol with a Doc or not but just one thing to keep in mind - doctors appointments for maternity related issues are only free if that GP practice is part of the Government scheme for subsidisation. I found out that my doctor's group here in Wellington have in fact opted out of this scheme so no freebies for me - it may be something to ask about if you do decide to enrol with a Doctor.

Hi Konagirl. I would speak to your FPA clinic, they may be able to see you up until around 15 weeks then you will have to see a midwife.
I'm sure FPA usually do see you for pregnancy related visits.

Thanks for your help guys. From what I understand I can continue going to FPA if needed but might just find me a MW and only go to Doc's if necessary.
Probably worth finding a Doc anyway as I imagine I'll use one a little more once I have wee ones.
