| Ok, since starting daycare (11 weeks ago) Joshua has been CONSTANTLY sick. And that is no exaggeration whatsoever. Within 3 days of starting he got a cold. Which has gone away and come back every week. He has also had Roseola (juvenile measles), two tummy bugs, conjunctivitis, massive ear and throat infection needing two full courses of penicillin and now, the icing on the cake - the rotavirus. All in 10 weeks. With a cold. And quite frankly I am at my wits end. He has had 3.5weeks off daycare (which we still have to pay for), has not slept a full night for 11 weeks, and I'm tired, and exhausted and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah - what can I do????? |

Oh that's horrible! When I started Hannah at playcentre, we were only going once a week and it seemed for a while she got sick every week! But that was without measles and tummy bugs  Basically all you can do is keep him in there until (and beyond) his immune system matures, or keep him home until he's older. Trouble is that little kids' immune systems are generally low anyway hence the sickness breeding that happens at daycares  -------------  |

When I did my early childhood training I was told that when you start a new thing for the first time the first year is full of sickness, children at daycare, starting school, starting a new job. Don't know if it is entiley true but we did notice that Andrew did have more colds in that first year at daycare than what he has had since then. Have a read of the centres sickness policy. Usually places will take a child back with an ear/throat infection after a full day on antibiotics (you will just need to fill in a medicine register). With conjunctivitus once he has had the first lot of drops in he will be fine to go back (what we have done is taken Andrew to the dr get the drop and then the next day he's back at daycare, with the drops to go in his eyes). ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Hopefully this is the end of it for you guys and his immune system is so good he doesn't get sick for ages.
This happened to us when we stopped breastfeeding it was just one thing after another so i know how tiring a constantly sick child is. |

awwww Claire thats hard, when rhiannon started playcentre at the beginning of the year, we were there for 2 days and the rest of the term she was sick, didnt go back in the second term, and she hasnt been sick since.
it makes it really hard to want to send them back as you hate seening them so sick. our third term is about to start, but im not going back as i just dont want Rhiannon spending all of winter sick again. Jayden went 6 hours a week when he was 9 months and we had the same, first he got several colds, then gastro (for a week) then he got a severe dose of the flu with landed him in hospital for four days. After that the paediatrician at the hospital recommend we keep him out until his immune system had developed more. Which we did. He didn't go back until he started Kindy at 2.5 and he was fine.

| Oh my goodness, I know exactly what you mean. We are 3 months into full time day care and Sam (2) has been sick on and off the entire time. His nose has NEVER stopped running!!!! We have just had a week at home because he ended up with pnuemonia! Apart from feeling awful for the poor wee, kids it makes it pretty tough when you are starting a new job having to take time off for sick children. Luckily my employer is understanding and my job affords me the time, as I can catch up when I get back. However I am still on my probabtion so days off up until this week are "no pay". |

Thanks ladies - it's good to know that others have experienced the same thing. I was beginning to wonder if he has something wrong with his immune system.
Daycare have just called me, and he has a temp of 39 degrees. I think he has three teeth coming through, but bejeepers I just can't believe he is unwell again

I would say the temp is because of teething and he's not sick. If it's free go to the dr to get him cleared then back to daycare tomorrow with pamol so they can give it to him if it is high again tomorrow. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |
