Greetings from a new member.

My name is Beth and I have recently joined the Oh Baby website as I have found a lot of useful information to assist me with trying to get pregant and to explain the process and issues etc.

I would like to share my story with you all in the hope that someone out there is going though the same experience I am and/or get some advice and tips on where I am going wrong. Apologies in advance for the long story....

I have been with my partner for 9 years and have been hoping to get pregant for about 5 years. I have PCOS and to date have used the motto of " if it happens it happens".

However, after turning 30 I came to realise that it was not going to happen without intervention, and as such asked my GP to refer me to the fertility clinic. I have been waiting since November to get a letter with my appointment time.... public health system or what?

I got impatient and have since joined the Auckland University PCOSMIC trial of Metformin as a fertility drug.

My problem is that with PCOS I am overweight and find it exremly hard to lose the weight, even with the incentive of having a baby to motivate me.

I am in my first cycle of taking the drugs and right on cue got AF and then ovulated on day 17 so I am extremly happy about how things are progressing. I am now 4DPO and the next step would be to get a BFP, but I am keeping it real and trying not to get my hopes up.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Hi Beth, while I haven't experienced the same as you in regards to PCOS and fertility treatment I would just like to wish you good luck on the Metformin and I hope this works for you.

If you are still going to follow up with the fertility clinic I think I would try and find out if anything has been done - 7 months seems like a long time to wait just to be given an appointment time. But then again, I haven't been through it so maybe it does take them ages.

Anyway, I really just wanted to say good luck and I hope this is the month for you

Hey beth,

I also have PCOS but not as bad as you by the sounds of it. I got a great book called the PCOS Diet and followed that. It was brilliant and worked wonders with all my issues (weight gain, acne and tiredness, conceived first cycle after starting it). I brought it for $45 and found it was a great investment. I am listing it on TM in the next couple of days (as am moving) but PM if you would like it.

Hi Beth,

I am Melissa and I had a darling baby born in December.  Harlan was not planned, as I have suffered with POCS and Endos.  In September 05 I had surgery to remove the Endos, and to zap the POCS.  I had a top specialist, who advised me, that "if it happens, it happens" (Children).  I too was overweight, due to the above.  I am 28. I tried Sure Slim, and actually found it to be a great help, but gave up, I found it sooooo hard to lose weight.

My DH and I married in November 05, and I fell preg in March 06.

Don't get toooooo down, as long as you stay positive.  I wish you all the very best, and hope we can have some good news soon from you.

Thanks for your replies and I have found them very helpful.

Amber - I do agree with you that 7 months is way too long to be waiting for an appointment and I must get back in contact with my GP to follow up whats going on.

Peanut - The book that you have sounds like a definate go. Let me know how much you want for the book - or if you would rather I purchase it off you from TM then I am happy to do this.

Kye - The weight loss you had before you found out you were pregant is amazing! The book must work and I am looking forward to reading it.
