I am just trying to work out the lenght of my cycles and have a TMI question...

Yesterday I had a tiny bit of darker "older" looking blood, a tiny bit but today I have the fresh red blood and a proper AF. SOOO do I count the start of my cycle from yesterday when I had pretty much nothing or from today when there is "real" blood.

Hope this hasn't put you of your breakfasts!

The way they have you do your cycles when under fertility treatment is that day 1 is the first day that you wake up bleeding, as this is usually the first 'proper' day of your cycle. So, I do it that way.

I sometimes have a day or two of spotting like you describe - darker, thicker blood - and was told to start counting from the first day that I wake up with 'normal' red blood.

Yes, spotting or old blood is not considered AF. Fresh bleeding for a full day is CD1. Say you had spotting over night and fresh blood at lunchtime, CD1 would still not be till the next day when you would have a full day of fresh bleeding.
