We have thought long and hard about getting one of these, our pro list consists of: not having to get a double pushchair straight away (if at all) as I can walk to playcenter and local shops with Kayla in pushchair and bubs in sling. Being able to hang washing and so things with Kayla and bubs is still attached if he is unsettled.
Cons: By back isnt great and has flared up in pregnancy, a sling may not be great for this reason? I did have one with Kayla, it was the natures sway one? I hated it, dont know if I had it on wrong or what but she felt like she was to folded up and could fall out if I bent over and she swung away from me..... I wont be able to go for good power walks/kids driving me nuts and need to get out, if I have Kayla in pushchair and bubs in sling. I would love to hear your thoughts, what you have tried sling wise, what worked/didnt etc.? We are also thinking of getting a skate board to attach to the pushchair so K can stand on that and bubs can go in chair, any comments on those? I've got the Natures Sway sling and I love it. Was great when they were unsettled newborns, and now it's handy if I'm going places the twin stroller won't fit (I throw one in the sling and one in the single stroller). Am convinced that if I didn't have twins my baby would live in the sling 24-7 - it's kinda hard to do that with two.
And I have a Toddler Tourer for the back of my buggy for Maya. It's good, but it's hard work up hill and upsets the balance of the stroller when going downhill coz it means all the weight is at the back. It does mean I can get out walking tho, coz without it Maya would never walk as far/fast as I want to. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

So with the sling I must have put her in wrong? she just didnt look natural in it, all bent and squashed up lol. Any tips on how to put them in and how high/low they lay?

I went to the BF with the girls and had the ladies help me try it on. But there are several different styles of sling, so if the NS one isn't for you another one might suit you better.
It did take a bit of getting used to, esp when they were tiny, but now I can pretty much get them into it one handed. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

We are looking at getting one of the front packs, they look so great for the back and bubs gets really good support. IMO the slings don't look like they are very comfy for bubs and I don't like the look of the back alignment in the sling. This could just be me tho. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I'm still getting used to how to use my sling but one thing I've learnt is that not all babies like the curled up position. Briona would have loved to be in a sling all day but Krystiana only likes being in there if her knees go over the side so she's not squished up lol. It's a lot easier to have her in the sling than just carrying, I like how it distributes the weight easier. A lot of backs get tender during pg but come right after childbirth when their ligaments all settle again.
I think Briona would probably do alright on a "skateboard", I'd just be concerned about her tiring or running off - although there are harnesses or wrist holders I guess. Also, I got my sling SH from TM for $25, a good place to look around for a sling without spending too much. ------------- |

Another thing to remember is that although they may look uncomfortable and squashed in there, many babies find it calming as it feels like the womb again. Wasnt a lot of room in there either. I have found in my experience that they are quicker to settle in the sling than without your contact, and Im told that it is mch easier and discreet to breastfeed in public if need be. | If you have money to burn, apparently the Ergo carrier is fantastic. Goes up to a really high weight range and is apparently good for bad backs. |

I have a D&Z sling and it is great. Took a bit of practise to get Kaia in there comfortably but now I don't even bother with a buggy. I had a double buggy but sold it on trade me, that is how much I love my sling!
She can sleep in there happily, and she doesn't sleep happily anywhere! In my quest for the perfect carrier I tried a Natures sway sling and a front pack also. Couldn't figure out the NS sling, she always looked squished and folded over and I found it tricky to adjust. And she HATED the front pack, I didn't find it comfortable and she would scream any time i put her in it! I would say it is worth finding some to try on and play around with. I was fortuante enough to borrow some to try. And with the D&Z slings, it is really important to get the right size, I bought my first one off trade me but it was too big. I almost gave up but then paid full price for one that is the right size and i love it!! What a load of waffle, congrats if you made it this far! The Ergo looks pretty good. You can get it from Bumbles.co.nz.
We used the Elite Front Pack. I used this when I wanted to dash into a shop and couldn't be bothered with the pram...I found it really comfortable. Ethan could either face me or when he was older face outwards. It took a bit of practice to get used to putting him in and out by myself, but well worth the money. If you opt for a sling, there are some people on Trademe selling new ones. We're coveting the Ergo at the moment!! I'm so in love with it after trying my friends one. Very similar to the ABC but a lot more comfy.

I have a sling off trade me and loved it, but got it too late to use it much with Hannah. If you have a little one in the sling and the big one in the buggy, do you think it would be possible to go walking (for exercise) for like an hour, or just around town type walking? ------------- Aimee Hannah 22/10/05 Greer 11/02/08 |

I tried the elite cruiser with #1, was good, but would like a sling this time as its not so bulky. Will look into the ergo ones I dont imagine walking for exercise with a sling and toddler in pushchair, (thats where the idea of getting a skate board came in) But for walking to playcenter or the shops I think it would be perfect, have to find a comfy one though  ------------- Kayla Rose is now 4! Wow this has been a really helpful post, I've been saying for weeks that I want to get a front pack. Today a friend came over and had her son (13wks) in a sling and he looked so content in there; she's offered it too me when the bump arrives... Your comments have reinforced my decision to try the sling and leave the front pack.

We used a front pack from when Ben was about 2 weeks and he was sooo comfy in it and always fell asleep.
I worrried about the slings as the babys I saw did look a bit squashed and with the front packs when bubba is older you can turn them round and interact more with them. I put Ben back in his the other day when he was having a crying day and he still loved it and hes one!! ( but he is light!)

| ive seen emma put agremlin in her sling one handed easily and they look confy too...but having said that i was about 4 months pg and had a friends sling and her 2 month old bubba in it and instantly knew i would never use one...my arms / shoulders and back killed me within minutes!!! |

I am the master gremlin-wrangler. I just wish I'd seen the D and Z slings first cos they look like I could put one gremlin on each hip and wear them both.
