I was wondering if anyone else takes herbal type fertility vitimans and minerals? I had been seeing a natropath who gave me Dong Quai and Vitex to help balance my hormones etc etc and now that I have to see a gyno and may go on clomid I am not sure whether to keep taking them? and I dont see the gyno for another few weeks so can ask him then...but do they work or am I wasting my time and $$$$? anyone elses experiences with herbal meds etc?

Hey Kye
I've got mixed emotions about the naturopathy thing. I've been taking herbs (including Dong quai & Vitex)prescribed by a naturopath for about 9 months now, and so has DH - still not pg! But my temperatures 'better' (more discernible O dip and subsequent rise, which indicates better hormone levels, and DH's sperm count and motility has improved a bit. So we've spent lots of $ with some results, but not great. to be fair tho, we have several issues to contend with (both sub-fertile), so we weren't expecting a fast change.
For about the last 4 months I've been having acupuncture, and that's really made a noticable difference - I used to get really bad PMS and period pain and it's completely gone - so clearly something's happening. Vitex did seem to help a bit with that, but there was a really dramatic change after a few sessions of acupuncture.
Some fertility specialists strongly discourage herbs etc, on the basis that it's 'doubling up' and they're not sure of the implications of that (which you could take to mean as that they acknowledge that herbs do actually work).
good luck.

Thanks Catie I think I will stop and then ask the gyno when I see him, he is chinese (the gyno Im seeing) so he may know about vitex and dong quai since they were used in chinese medicine (I think) ?

I was like Catie kye saw some improvements when taking herbs (and took them for 9 months) the bigger improvemnts being DH's sperm count (motility stayed the same) but not much change for me although some people have great success with herbs! I had to stop taking them as it all just got way too expensive for no big change ie not pregnant especially after 9 months on them! I don't think either party reccomend 'mixing' the fertility drugs/herbs together but just check with your gyno as you say!

I have been taking Goji juice which according to the research is really good for fertility and is good to take throughout pregnancy
