Well I'm not TTC (yet ) but this seems to fit in this section best.
How do I know when I've started ovulating after a baby? I've been feeling a few things "on the move" IYGWIM and since I got pg in a long irregular cycle I have no idea when my "as usual" period would be back as I did with the last two girls (ie what day, obviously the month is anyone's guess). Charting obviously comes to mind but,
1- don't you have to temp at the same time every day after a certain length of sleep? But I'm bf at nights, so can I temp at 4.30ish when K wakes so long as I've slept since 11.30 or earlier?
2- will my temps be awol this soon after having a baby anyway?
3- do I *have* to use a special thermometer since I'm only temping out of interest not family planning?
I also think AF is on the way because it came back with the other girls when they were 2-4 months.
ETA: also what happens with temps if I have my period back but am not fertile yet. Does it make a difference?

Ideally you are supposed to temp after 3 hours of sleep so as long as your doing it within half an hour of the time you will be fine.

Nope they should be fine, you will still see the shift of ovulation no matter if your temps are all fruity or not

A $10 - $20 BBT thermometer from the chemist so its not that expensive
I also think AF is on the way because it came back with the other girls when they were 2-4 months.
When AF does arrive it will make it easier to start your basic charting

Yep your temps will be lower due to the lack of the heat inducing hormone progesterone.

Thanks Jess With the last question, I take it the temps will be lower overall so will still peak etc?

When you start a cycle your temps dive due to AF arriving they stay low until you ovulate then they go high again.
In this pic you can see the temps going down at the end of the cycle as AF approaches

Hey Jess :) Ive just started temping so all new to me In the chart that you posted it shows a dip at the time of ovulation is this generally what happens before the temp rises? just asking cause I think I am approaching ovulation and I had a real low temp this morning and wondered why this was?

Yep its normally a dip before the egg is released i have a dip today aswell so if we both ovulate we can wait together in the two week wait
Just remember this is only confirmed once you have 3 days of high temps

We've been talking about 6 for a while now but I just *know* our family is not complete yet so want at least one more... in truth, I feel on top of the world and like I'm really gaining momentum, have a good feel for what I'm doing etc, and DH is the one feeling exhausted! lol

6 , you'll be one busy mum with them all once they are at school age when you are the teacher. But I do know what you mean by not feeling like your family is complete. I only have 2 but I do have this feeling that I need that 3rd child to make me complete. I have some charting info from Jess if you want a copy of it. It is really good info.
