I'm thinking my poor old washing machine might be giving up, doesn't really matter if it does as we have saved up some money for this type of thing. It's probably got a couple of months left so I'm in no hurry..

Where is generally the cheapest places to get a washing machine? I've never had to look for one before! hehe

Hi Stacey, we like getting our whitewear second hand from Mac's Appliance Services on Cuba St. We got a washing machine from there 4 years ago and its still working no probs. Just an idea...

I've thought about second hand the only thing is my parents brought one second hand and it didn't last that long (only 2 yrs) vs what a new one does so I'm thinking it's probably easier just to get a new one

I found farmers quite good specially when they have a sale we got ours from there when they had a sale but we were looking before that and found they were about $100 cheaper than say noel lemmings and bond and bond we got a fisher and paykel smart drive and it's great. In the sale we saved more like $200 compared to other places.

We have a samsung from Noel leeming and its on its 4th year and still going good. We have had it serviced (by an electrician friend) so it still has a good life expectancy. When we got ours it was $799 and it has a number of wash functions, but we only seem to use 2 of them. You can have a look at it when you come around next week.

Funny you should mention this Stacy, We are just in the process of getting a new one too. I have the consumer mag latest ratings on them if you want me to send it to you (my mum gets it and scanned it for me so can email it).

We are going with a Harvey Norman deal as they are doing 18 months interest free deferred payment, figured that is better for us given I have just finished work!

Our old one is F&P and has been great and lasted years and years. One thing I will say though, the flasher ones with the LCD screens on them tend to be more expensive to fix and it really is just another thing to go wrong!

we have the consumer mags too and got the front loader (medium) they recoemmded - electrolux I think. i love it, BUT the cycles take LONG time. I'm talking a normal wash is over 2 hours! quick wash is one hour and thats what we use. Awesome washing machine though!

Hmmmmm we might have to look at that Harvey Norman deferred payment thing as it would work perfectly for us as well right now and we wouldn't have to use our savings just yet.

I'll pm you SB for that consumer thinger

That is exactly what we thought Stacey, savings can stay on the mortgage and we can pay it off when I go back to work!

have emailed the consumer stuff to you.

I've got a Haier washing machine and dryer that I got as a combo deal from Noel Leemings for around $899 a while back. The great thing is that the dryer is a 5kg and so takes a full load from the machine. I paid for the 5 year warranty on the washing machine, have now had it just over 2 with no probs so far (except when the stupid landlord moved it to relino the floor and didn't reconnect the hose properly = flood )

Yip I definately prefer F & P - whether you get a basic model or a flasher one. When I was flatting we had a Samsung one and found it useless!!!

Ours will be a basic model no matter what brand we get. We don't need all the extra stuff. The one we have now is extremely basic doesn't even have a delicate setting and we have never even needed that but I don't think they make washing machines quite that basic anymore hehe

harvey norman. Always ask what their cash price is. And then try to get about $500 bucks off that even. They are the best to do deals with in my experience.

We got a simpson from noel leeming, its entirely manual no fancy electronic bits, as these are the parts that usually break down. I've had it for 5 years now and still going strong.
I got it on interest free terms.
