Hello everyone.
My partner and I are about to start TTC our first child and I am a bit in the dark about maternity services. Our problem is that going by my cycle, our EDD if we were to conceive this month would be around 20th December. Do you think that it would be hard trying to find a LMC for that date? Are we better to wait until the next cycle to start trying?
I am worried that midwives would want to keep a small caseload at this time of year and that it may be difficult to find one.

I shouldn't think you will have too many problems, as it is their job, after all!! You may find one has applied for leave, but they do that months and months in advance, so will be able to tell you when you ar booking in. Good luck!!!

It's nothing to worry about Amber as all midwives take time off throughout the year and if they take you on for Christmas time they are always aware of the possibility. We had a 27th December baby and my doctor was away but the first midwife I called was available.

I think it'd be really cool but I used to work with a lady that was born on Christmas Eve. She hated it! She was 65 at the time and said that she had never in her life had a birthday party ... all the celebrations had been Christmas ones with her birthday mixed in (if at all) and the presents were combined Xmas/Birthday. I felt so bad for her so each year I would organise a birthday card and little pressie for her on top of our regular Xmas lotto tickets for each other.
I think as long as parents make an effort to keep the occasions separate it would be alright though.

imo I wouldn't want to have a Christmas baby.. not that some people have a choice! lol.. my friend is Dec 20th and that was close enough to Christmas for her to miss out on birthdays.. If I were planning another baby I'd wait until next month to TTC. Good luck!

Actually everyone makes a big fuss over my christmas baby. And we had her last birthday in the afternoon and 4 of her friends were able to come. The only downfall i have found so far is that Alyssa expects santa to come on her birthday too .

My little man was born on 6th December, actually due on 16th December. My midwife was fantastic and said if it came on Christmas Day she had no problem at all. It was a really neat early Christmas present. Good Luck.

Well, we are actively giving it a go now. I'm not quite into my fertile period yet (and the days are really dragging by now).
The more I've thought about it, the more keen I am to have a December baby. It is our first month actively TTC so I have to try and hold back a bit, I've read what the odds of conceiving in the first month are and am trying to keep it in mind. It's just so exciting (and a bit scary) finally making the first step after so many years waiting.

I know how you feel i have been trying to decide if a xmas baby is a good idea or not and the more i have thought about it the better it sounds especially since i live in a different town to my family and if i was due around xmas they would come up to be around and would be able to stay longer because of xmas holidays.

That would be nice eh? I live in a different town than my family as well and xmas time is about the only time of year when everybody gets together so it would be great to add a birthday in there. Usually for birthdays during the year, everybody is working and finds it difficult to get time off so we can't always get together.

Hehe my DH was born on the 23rd Dec and DD1 on the 27th Dec so we just party like crazy over Dec (and now Jan as well)... and Briona gets all of winter to herself since I'm on the 23rd Nov lol. Hannah got an early birthday party last year (so we could catch her friends before they went away for the Christmas hol's) but we still did something special for her birthday, and since we have big extended family we celebrate with one side on Christmas Day and the other side on New Years.... so it's heaps of fun! And if you plan to bf for 12 months then you can have your first drinkies the following Christmas hehe

Lucy was due on the 27th Dec and luckily came on the 10th December. When I got pregnant, I just looked up midwifes in the phonebook and after about 10 "no's" I found one and she was great, had a backup midwife aswell, who was there for the birth. Funny thing is that I might have to do the same thing, as I have a feeling that I am preggers for number 2!! Another xmas baby, gees I know how to time them right aye!
