Hey all,
Have just moved house, no broadband yet, so hopefully I can post this without dial up cutting out like it's prone to do. I've got a question about temping. What I have always read is that ovulation is 14 days before your next period which, until now, is why I haven't tried charting. I guess I have had this idealistic view that it is something that I shouldn't need to do! Anyway, I've had some interesting results. I have a 30 or 31 day cycle (varies by a day), so have always put in a grand BD effort around days 14 - 17. Now I have tried this charting business, I can see that perhaps this has been missing the boat! Yesterday was day 13 of my cycle and, after static 36.2 degrees for five days, my temp went to 36.4. This morning it was also 36.4. I know I need at least one more day of that temp to assume ovulation. So my confusion is that, doesn't that make ovulation really early for me? It negates that 14 day pre AF rule that I had been following. The second question is that, according again to books and the web, is that women are fairly static in when they ovulate. Does this mean that I should start to expect ovulation around day 13 of 30? It still just seems very early. Anyway, thanks again for your advice. I can't explain how much advice from real people mean, as compared to the text book information I seem to find on the web. Laurie x |

From my understanding, the luteal phase past ovulation is the static thing, whereas ovulation can be effected by environmental and emotional factors. If your cycle is always that length, then you could assmume - after checking a couple - that your ovulation is always around the same time. If you were to have a delayed AF, then that should mean that you ovualted later.
Seems like a long luteal phase, but I have no idea about that, I only know that short ones are bad. -------------

I ovulated on day 13 of my cycle and got pregnant then too i thought it was a bit early for me too but im not complaining now as i got what i wanted

I to ovulated on CD13 with the help of drugs and got pregnant.
Ovulation is entirely random. I wouldnt base one chart on what days you reckon ur going to ovulate. My earliest without Meds was cd17ish and latest was cd26ish, it can vary so drastically! Keep charting and keep an eye on your temps they WONT be the same every month. I wouldnt assume that you normally ovulate early and have long luetal phases aswell until you have charted for awhile. The average is 14 days but women are known to have longer or shorter ones. Im just thinking aswell that i wouldnt count on that being ovulation it is a VERY low temp for progesterone to make. Even if FF gives you cross hairs keep the bding up through your whole cycle. Keep temping and see how it goes but feel free to ask questions thats what we are here for

Not neccessarily - mine was *usually* 10 days but sometimes as short as 7-8 and very occasionally I would get a 12 or 13 day LP. Yet my cycles remained the same length (26 days). The reproduction system is such a strange thing, the more you know about it the more you wonder how anyone ever manages to get pregnant - and yet somehow we do! -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Yuh i agree with Emz i have been known to have luetal phases 9 days long and some 16 days long. Nothing is really static with cycles not even our periods

Well, this morning temp took a big dive, lower than what it had been before the increase, to 35.99. And I took it twice just in case!!
So, in short, I have no idea what is going on! Hopefully over the next wee while I can start to see a pattern, but I wish it didn't have to be this complicated. I'm sure it gets easier - you guys all seem so knowledgeable! |

Sounds like it is possible that ovulation is approaching. I was always one who had the temp dive before ovulation it was strange but keep an eye out

I know! I feel like this has only made me more uptight about it all - a little bit of ignorance was bliss, I think.
3rd day of low temps today, day 19 of cycle, and still no sign my body is doing what it is supposed to be.... probably because I am watching it so closely.
I guess I am getting a bit anxious as my due date for my miscarried bub is coming up and I kind of expected I'd have something else to focus on by now. Is it possible that having a miscarriage stops you ovulating? I obviously have in the past! |

| Anything can cause you to not ovulate but dont worry i have always had long cycles and sometimes didnt ovulate till really late like mid CD20s take it easy and try to chill and it will happen i know how u feel getting to this far along and nothing happening no matter how hard you try it really sucks. |

It was almost as dark as the control. Much darker than it was the last two days, but still not perfect.

Keep testing coz i reckon it could get as dark or darker within 24hours easily. test again before bed do the deed and then test about 11am tomorrow

Well you were right Jezsika. Yesterday at 11am there was two matching lines, and a slightly higher temperature yesterday and today. So, I think this month we’ve done everything we can so now just need to wait and see what happens in ten or so days time.
