Hi there
My husband is going for a vasectomy reversal next march. He is only 31 and it has only been 16mths since the vasectomy.
Would love to hear from anyone else that has had a success at a reversal.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Tania - my DH had a vas-reversal after 5 years. It was successful, but after 2 years of TTC we had him retested. It turns out that in the first test that they did on DH they did not test for antibodies which treat the sperm as if it is disease and kill it. Well lo and behold he had these antibodies! So 2 years of going nutty TTC when we had less than 1% chance!
So anyway my advice is when you get DH tested after the reversal, make sure that they are testing for the antibodies.
Your chances of success are very high as it has not been long since the original op. Good luck!

Thanks for the replys.
Yes we have just had the visit with the vasectomy doctor today and he said that it sounds all good. When he had the original done, he has quiet bad scar tissue on one side from an operation that he had done when he was very young. He said there is a good chance he has only been operating on one any way. Which is quiet amazing as with both his children he has already, it only took a couple of months of trying to conceive.
We also asked about antibodies, but he said there are a couple of treatments they can do to get rid of these. So we will see what happens.

Hey Lulu and purpledragon
I'm interested in your comments on antibodies - I've heard that the options are pretty limited if hubby has these - e.g. sprem wash & IVF or drugs with a risk of VERY nasty side-effects . What are the treatments you know about????????
Good luck!

I've posted a reply on your other topic catec...
The only option I know of is IVF ICSI where they wash the sperm and individually inject the sperm into the egg. Successful for us!

Yeah that is what I had heard of but don't really know alot about it. The vasectomy doctor made it sound like it wasn't that big of a deal. I didn't really ask any more about it, as I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it.
We are looking at getting the reversal done in March next year,so we will see what happens.

Thanks for that. It is nice to hear of success as you hear more of the un successful ones.
I just want march to hurry up and get here so we can start trying. I have even started charting my ovulation so I know exactly what is happening with my body.
Thanks again for the feedback everyone.

The sooner the reversal is done (after the vasectomy), the higher the succes rate apparently. although I know someone who had a vasectomy in his 30's, had a reversal in his late 50s (second wife) and they now have 3 kids!
thanks for respones to my Q re antibbodies
