FIRST FERTILITY APPOINTMENT - PCOS!!

Hi ladies, so I have my first appointment with Fertility Plus (Auckland) this coming Thursday and I'm in need of some advice and/or stories based on your experiences with your first appointment with a specialist.

Both myself and my hubby have done all the pre-tests i.e. sperm analysis, blood works, ovary scan and all resulted in my partner's sperm being in top notch condition and myself having Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (which I pretty much already knew). We have been trying for over 3 years.

I have a feeling they will just put me on Clomid however Im curious to hear any stories you ladies may have in regards your experiences...

Thanks a bunch xo

Hi Tori! Goodluck with your appointment. They will almost definitely start you off on a low dose of clomid. Don't get too hopeful about ovulating the first time, as the low dose often isn't enough, but they prefer to start low than have you produce 8 eggs or similiar! My sister has PCOS and her hubby is fine, and they had both their children with just clomid so the success rate is pretty good. If clomid doesn't work after 4 cycles they can try different things, but clomid is pretty much the most successful drug so they always start there.

The only other thing they might put you on is metformin. This is a diabetic drug to help lower your insulin resistance (PCOS is an insulin-based disease, so reducing your insulin resistance can reduce the effects of PCOS)

Hi Mushroom, thanks so much for your reply and best wishes..

Heres hoping they give me something, Clomid would be fantastic. I'm going in fully prepared that there are many possibilities as to where this journey may land me. Im hoping I end up pregnant within the first 3 rounds, however if not then we will just have to try something else.

Did your Sister go through Fertility Plus too? Or another clinic? Also how many rounds of Clomid did she do in order to conceive?

Also I forgot to mention I am currently taking Metformin, started approx a month ago.

x

Hi,

No, we went through Fertility Associates, but my cousin went through F+ and got pregnant on clomid. My sister took 3 rounds for her first pregnancy (first round she didn't ovulate though), and the second time got pregnant on her first round.

Good luck!
