Hiya,

My sons 13 months old and I've just finished the transition to cows milk well so I thought! He has 3 200ml bottles a day so week one was 50mls cows milk 150mls formula until 4 weeks later Saturday just been he's now on full cows milk. I thought he loved it, he would drink his whole bottles where as he wouldn't do this before but my problem is he's now refusing bottles altogether! He started with his lunchtime bottle refusing it for a couple of days and now it's ALL bottles..is it normal for a baby to self wean like this? I've tried going back to formula and back to half and half and even that isn't working!

I don't know if I can be much help, but my experience: my DD weaned herself off formula at about 11 months. I don't really give her much cow's milk to drink straight, but she has it with her weetbix in the morning and she loves her yoghurt and cheese.

I personally don't think it's a problem (though please note I am not an expert), maybe just try to get him his calcium from different sources?

600ml is quiet a lot of milk. As long as hes geting other sources of calcium like yogurt, pulses, cheese, milk on cereal etc and still having wet nappies he'll be fine. Have you tried a sippy cup or normal cup? Its actually better for him to wean off the bottle at this stage as its better for his teeth. My son went straight from bottles to cups (wouldnt touch a sippy cup) at around that age as he stopped taking a bottle too. I leave small plastic water bottles around the house too as he'll take a drink of water from those if he's too busy playing.

Well I think, sucking milk from a bottle require different mouth and tongue movements than breastfeeding, so it can take a little time to get your baby habitual with this. If you are using plastic bottle then please leave it right now and use glass bottle for the better health of your kid.
