I have a daughter (5yrs) that has nothing to do with her biological father so my partner now is the closest thing she has to a dad and she does call him dad every now and then mainly just as a novelty/fun thing I think.... My question is I am pregnant with #2 due in Dec and am wondering about the dad label, even for me I find it odd to call "J" (my partner) dad (as in go ask dad or wheres dad etc) but when baby comes he WILL be dad and I don't want it to be confusing for the new one to be referring to daddy as both dad and "J". Will my girl just automatically start referring to him as dad when baby comes along, do I need to sit down and have a talk to her about it or is it not really a big deal at all?
Hope you can understand this rambling and if anyone has been in the same or similar situation any advice etc would be appreciated.

My cousin was in a similar situation. Her 4 year old son hadn't seen his father in over 2 years, so she let him call her partner 'Dad' when the baby came. They got married when baby was 1 and her husband adopted her son so now it's all legal too. I think your Dad is the guy who raises you, who cuddles you when you are sad and who cheers when you do well. Some fathers aren't Dads. If her father is never around and your partner is committed to raising her I don't see a problem if she starts to call him Dad over time.
