Hello, although I've been reading for a little while this is my first ever post on this forum. Earlier this year I went to my GP for some folic acid + general advice about baby happening. I grew up in AUS and remember recieving my MRR vaccination at school (at around the age of 11 or 12). My GP advised that I go get a blood test to ensure I was immune. Unfortunately I moved house + things got busy. The blood test was put on the back burner until earlier this month. 99% certain that all was well, my husb and I have been 'not, not trying' these past couple of months. I really feel like it might have worked this month. I need to wait 14 days or so to confirm of course. Anyhow, my doc called me this morning and said I do NOT have immunity to Rubella. I was completely floored. Of course I cannot have the jab now, just in case something is brewing. I have been in tears in my office all morning, worried about it all. If I am in fact pregnant - has anyone else been through pregnancy without sufficient Rubella cover? Are the risks too great? Any wise words would be so greatly appreciated this morning! Perhaps these copious tears are a sign I am pregnant!! |

Don't stress! Yes, it's ideal to have the immunity while you're pregnant. But if you are pregnant already, the HUGE probability is that you'll be totally fine. You'd obviously want to avoid exposing yourself to anyone with it (you probably would have anyway!) but the odds of a) you catching it and b) it affecting the baby (not every baby whose Mum gets it is affected) are still really slim. -------------

| Thank you Hopes. I'm just so mad at myself really. I am big on planning. Been detoxing my system, taking my folic acid etc etc. To fail on this one point drives me crazy! I had an ovarian cyst rupture in 08, resulting in the removal of half my reproductive system - so if I was pregnant so quickly that would be a real miracle + something I have looked forward to for a long time. I guess I just have to wait out the next week and a bit before deciding my next course of action. Thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate it. The Nurse at my doctors surgery really made me feel terrible + I just couldn't help but cry when I hung up the phone. You've made me feel much calmer :) |

Most NZ girls had the vaccine, but I bet the majority of us didn't check to see if we're still immune. I'd try to not worry about it like Hopes said. ------------- Kel http://lilypie.com">

| i know this post is a bit older, but I spent a lot of today trying to work out what to do as well. I WAS vaccinated when I was young, but my anitbodies for rubella were only 21... below 15 and you're not immune anymore. if you have the jab, you have to wait 28 days before ttc, but it's well worth it! I just spoke with a friend who lived down the street from someone who's mom got rubella only a few weeks after conception, and the baby had severe mental and physical disabilities when born as a result. In NZ, it's free if you're TTC - I just spoke with the lovely people at Immunisation Advisory Centre free helpline 0800 IMMUNE (0800 466 863). |
