Sophia is 3 months old and over the past week she has refused to feed with us holding her in the crook of our arms. She is fully formula fed and has reflux which she is on losec for. Long story short, 2 weeks ago she had the Rotovirus vaccination and reacted to it - she was extremely irritable, not sleeping, spitting up more. We had been told by the GP's nurse that there would be NO reaction as the vaccination was oral, not injection. So we thought her reflux had flared up and moved her onto AR formula. The AR formula made her sooooooo constipated that we ended up needing to give her a suppository and lactulose, and she is now back on her old formula. In the meantime, she has started refusing to feed with us holding her. She was also taking ages to drink 60mls so we upped her teat size to a Avent 3. She will only feed in her bouncer or when lying down!! As soon as we try and hold her to feed, she screams. Anyone have any ideas? She's had her well child check up and her neck is fine. |

Thanks :) Yeh it is really strange. She is fine at her 10pm dreamfeed and her middle of the night feed with me holding her. I guess because she is sleepy? |

Denny - we also had trouble with feeding issues and it did eventually come right (we also had silent reflux) anyway a lovely lady at plunket suggested I feed outside under a tree - was to cold outside but I did it by a window and with the tv on a constant distraction seemed to work. I also went into plunket and got our little one weighed and they said to come back if he still wasn't feeding properly in a couple of days. Long story short he did get a bit better, better enough for me to stop worrying but he didn't take a full bottle all the time for a long long time. Our boy was also good at night... Little cheeky monkeys. Hopefully your little girl starts to drink properly soon but if not to try plunket. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

My 6 month old started refusing to be held for feeds at about 4 months old. Not sure what caused it but it was just as he was really beginning to explore his hands and everything around him. I started feeding him while he was lying down as that was the only way he wouldnt push the bottle or me away. He would hold the bottle himself and I would just hold it up at the end as he wasn't coordinated or strong enough to do it. He quickly learned how to do it all by himself and now he just feeds himself while I watch him. Have heard though that feeding lying down can cause ear infections but haven't had any problems so far, the only problem is that he swallows a bit more air than before. I feed him in my arms just before bed and during the night when he is sleepy but otherwise he wants to do it himself and to be honest I haven't really pushed it as he really enjoys his floor time with the bottle, taking it out sometimes and babbling to it, really cute. |
