Hi ladies, I thought I would start a new topic and I hope you will join me. Here is a place to post the lovely, positive things we do for ourselves that help us to get through the sad times, the lonely times, the empty times, the disappointments and the hard times that come up now and again when trying for a baby.
Sharing the things we do will help us to stay positive, and give each other ideas too!
So, today I bought the most amazingly flattering dress. I got it from Millers for $20! I don't even usually look in there but it caught my eye. It is black and white with horizontal stripes on the top and skirt. The stripes meet in a 'v' in the middle. It is the most flattering thing I have ever worn! It skims over all my lumps and bumps and draws the eye inwards - huge bonus for my wide hips and thick ankles! I can't wait to wear it on my wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks.
Also today, I painted my nails. Something I haven't done for a very long time. It's funny how a coat of colour on your nails can make you feel ever more so lovely.
What have you done lately for yourself?

What a great idea Tan! I'll jump in and join you for sure. Some positive things of late that have helped me deal with the wait for a sperm donor have been to just start living my life...booking that overseas holiday, moving forward in my career etc rather than holding off hoping for baby. And I've booked myself a pedicure just in time for Xmas - a treat for lugging around this god awful leg brace for 6wks lol(had knee surgery a mth ago).
Looking forward to hearing other positives.

Babycrazy - I totally agree with getting on with life! It is easy to put life on hold and just wait - but much better to live life! DH and I have committed to doing the Otago Rail Trail next March so have been doing some cycling together in preparation. It has been a great thing to do together and exercise is so good for releasing those feel good endorphins. Plus we are both getting fitter and I am going to do something that's on my bucket list! I always said to DH that if we can't have kids I want to live an extraordinary life and do things we wouldn't necessarily do if we had kids. I am glad we are doing that. It makes me feel like there's life beyond having a baby and stops me from obsessing.

When I'm really down my DW puts on music and gets me to dance with her. It's always great as it never fails to cheer me up. Slow dancing is so sweet and loving, and then she makes me crack up laughing as she's an amazing dancer (from the Caribbean) so can pull out THE MOVES that have me both splitting my sides and in awe, depending on what she pulls out if the bag haha. Laughter is the best medicine, especially combined with movement and love.
I always want her to cook for me too, and often cooking together is very therapeutic. Nurturing your body when you have been feeling let down by it is a good thing to do.
Anyway, those are my stand-bys, and luckily both always possible and cheap!

What a great idea Tan! It is lovely to hear what others are doing for self-care.
For me: Ever since 1st of Feb this year I have been doing gratitude journal. I write three things I am grateful for each day before going to bed. Even when I'm having a sh*t day I can always think of three things e.g a roof over my head, I don't live in a war zone, DH & DD etc...
I breathe. I know that sounds silly, but I lie down, get comfy and breathe deeply, trying to make each exhalation last longer than my inhalation, then I count to 50 breaths. I try and clear my mind and just concentrating on breathing and feeling the oxygen flood through my body.
I go for a walk to the park down the road and play on the swings - I act like a big kid. It feels so good!
Can't wait to read more of what you ladies do.
Big hugs to all,
n00b

Nice RachFizz - me too. Just feel so much stronger and healthier - not to mention in a better mood! Yesterday morning I went for a walk on the beach. The focus was on relaxation, not exercise so if I stopped and just closed my eyes and listened to the ocean, that was fine too. It was incredibly uplifting.

Pepi - I love dancing with DH too - we met while doing ceroc dance classes so it's not unusual for us to start dancing in the middle of the lounge or kitchen.
n00b - what great commitment writing a gratitude journal! Love the idea!

How did everyone's Christmas go? I found it hard, on and off. I love Christmas but it really hit home how much Christmas is about family and children. To get through:
I bought myself some lovely things while shopping for other people (hehe) AND, of course I asked for them all to be gift wrapped! They went under the tree until Christmas Day.
I made sure I had my favourite wines in the house, and some lovely cheeses, pate etc.
I have had my fill of lovely ham cooked on the BBQ.
To top it all off, yesterday, DH and I stayed in bed until 1pm, then we watched 3 episodes of Downton Abbey, Season 3, in our PJ's, eating leftovers and not answering the phone. We are really trying to do all those things you don't get to do so much with kids.
I hope you all found some joy in this time of the year and did some lovely things for yourselves. Bring on 2013!!!

Sounds like some nice things over Xmas Tan! Well I scored a foot spa during our family present game so that has been lovely to test out today! A trip to the races yesterday was nice too.

IVFGirl111 - the dress was knee length but the diagonal stripes were enough to draw the eye away into the centre. I wore it for Christmas day and got heaps of compliments!

Gardening - a great way to get away from it all. I garden and think of nothing but what's in front of me. What's even better is gathering the fruits of my labour - harvested strawberries, raspberries and black currants today and made black current cordial and raspberry cordial. Have got loads more to pick so next I might make jam. And just because I'm not technically ttc right now I popped some of the black current cordial with some ice, lemonade and vodka for a refreshing drink. Yummo xx

Lol I just thought if another thing.... Geordie shore !!! Total trash but a laugh nonetheless haha. I just love the accents and their quirky little sayings. Kinda reminds me that there is life outside of ttc. Ooh and tonight I discovered the Welsh equivalent The Valleys - omg trash with a capital T lol. Stupid huh?

Aww you guys are so cute, loving the positive vibe!
I just bought a little flowing blue skirt and singlet that look perky and fun. Looking forward to wearing them in the weekend if it's sunny.
Curling up in bed with a book, pottering in my greenhouse, playing silly computer games -- all good fun and nice distractions.
Getting a cut and colour at the hairdresser works wonders too...

Mmm yes I think a cut and colour is in store for me soon! I usually go to a lady who is super cheap and does it from home, but after my mc I got a cut and colour at a proper hairdressers and it's such a treat!

I have really been enjoying baking and cooking. I like to challenge myself and try new things. It has been really nice to have the time and energy to pursue something I love.
I have been really getting into salads lately and have been experimenting with some tasty results! Might even drop a few kilos as a bonus.
Also, I bought some lovely new mugs and donated the old chipped ones to our work staffroom. My cupboard looks very styley now! Hope you all are doing lovely things to keep positive and feeling great.

So I thought I'd resurrect this goodie. I believe it's a really positive thing to share the ways we get through the waiting. After my second m/c in May, I have taken up a couple of new hobbies. I am now doing a bit of sewing. I attended a course and have started making these really funky cushions. I have also started singing lessons and I am loving it. These are things that I wouldn't be doing if we were having a baby as they cost a bit of money that I think I would be saving otherwise. It's been a great way to add to my quality of life and I definitely found it easier to get through the second m/c because I had some things in my life to look forward too.
What are you doing to take care of yourself and 'get through' while you await conceiving that baby who will tell you they are yours?

Nice thread :) I've been trying to focus on doing nice things for myself, especially when AF arrives... I had a pedicure with a friend on Friday then dinner and a good girly catch up. I have been having nice long baths. And painting my nails.

I haven't been through anything as heartbreaking as you ladies - I couldn't imagine how that must be for you :( But to take my mind off my obsession with needing to be pregnant I'm getting a lot more into exercise and fitness and focusing on the kids we already have :)Pedicures a good idea! My friends sister is a nail tech so I'm getting my acrylics put back on now that I'm not working! YAY to feel a bit girly again!

Oooh love painting my nails. I have a huge collection and haven't done it in a long time. Must get those colours out again! Jess - I also love fitness and, having no children, I do appreciate being able to get out any time I want for exercise. Not having to organise anyone else is a huge factor!
