After some suggestions please, we have a lovely 26 month daughter who is definately showing an interest and understanding about using the potty.

Here's the challenge, she goes goes to HB care in the middle of the day, they tend to be out and about, going to playgroups and outings, she's there for 3 hours per day, so I wasn't going to ask for help form her carer to begin with.

Hubby and I are both shift workers, every day is different for DD, either one of us could be home in the morning or evening, one or both of us in morning or evening if one of us is rostered off, we don't have set on/off days or times from work, so although our DD is quite used to this and we tell her each day who will be home with her the next day, we struggle to get a routine going around her using the potty.

The only successful times (twice) have been me putting a music cd on after her bath and sitting there for 10 minutes singing along to Mickey Mouse and she all of a sudden goes. Several times I have suggested we do this again and in true 2 year old style flat out refuses. I have tried a few times putting her in knickers and letting her know to tell me or go to the potty of she needs to go, she knows and will go sit on the potty, but won't pull down her knickers or leggings, it always seems to happen when I'm not in the room! I've been reluctant to put her just in knickers because it's still quite cold here.

Everything I've read has told me that we need a consistent routine so that every day is the same, but we really just haven't figured out a good starting point. I'm debating waiting until January for some warmer weather. My mum friends that I have asked for some tips are SAHM mums who just stayed home for a couple of weeks, which isn't an option, we don't have any leave until February.

Any advice much appreciated

Definitely involve her caregiver

Every 2 hours take her to the toilet or on the potty, you can do this with a nappy on at the start so she doesn't have accidents until it's warmer weather.

So I'd start when you get her up from the night, pop her on the loo & then every 2 hours from then, tell her caregiver that you are trying to & they'll definitely help out

Hi Tigerlilly,
I found our HB carer really good, when dd regressed she started giving her stickers as rewards and it worked for when she was there and so did it at home too and it worked. Also at the start of TT was really kind of not commiting to it, but HB carer said just do it she is ready. So I put her in knickers, she helped choose the ones she liked and didn't like getting them wet. I spent ages reading her books while she was sitting on the toilet (potty didn't work for us, we got a special toilet ladder with a seat that dd loved). Also summer helped for us. TT I found is more work than nappies as there is a lot of accidents at the start but worth it.
The other thing I'd day is really celebrate the successes-go over the top.
Also read a toilet training guide that I will post on here if I can find it and it said don't ask them if they want to go as they often say no in that two year old way. Instead say let me know when you want to go to the toilet, I did this every hour or so and more often when I knew she needed too-that worked.
