Hi Kirst,

Welcome to oh baby. Wow, egg collection today! Good luck I will be thinking of you. I hope you get lots of lovely eggs and that fertilisation goes wonderfully.
Is this your first IVF cycle? Do you mind me asking what infertility issues you have? Have you got any other children? My injections are going fine, no real side effects really. Have my down reg bloodtest tomorrow, can't wait for egg collection day, then I'll feel like I'm getting somewhere!
Have you been on the everybody.co.nz forum? There is a great forum on infertility with many ladies who are going through IVF. I have found it a great support.
Let us know how you get on with egg collection.

Hey everyone :) egg collection all over, 19 eggs extracted and 10 of them fertilised!! so now just waiting for embryo transfer on friday :)
Lulu, yes it is my first cycle of ivf so all this is very new and scary to me, my hubby and I have no children but have been pregnant before and were unfortunate to have an ectopic pregnancy where i had to have my fallopian tube removed, as well as endo ivf was the best solution.

Posted By: Lulu
Date Posted: 15 November 2006 at 5:46pm
Wow congratulations Kirst, that's an awesome fertilisation rate!
I'm sorry to hear about your loss that must have been awful for you both

I am sure you will have great success with that fert rate, I expect to see a BFP in two weeks time! Yay for pre-christmas good news!

It certainly is a scary and emotional journey. My expected egg collection day is around the 27th of Nov, so as Ginger said it's less than two weeks away! Gosh I've been complaining that it's taking so long, but it's kind of snuck up on me now!

Best of luck for ET day this Friday - please let me know how you get on.

That's awesome that you have had a great experience. Some people seem to have a lot of trouble with disinterested specialists and unsympathetic nurses. I have been happy with my experience so far, but I guess the really telling time will be egg collection and embryo transfer.

Can't wait to hear your good news in two weeks time!

Well embryo transfer never happened unfortunately
I have OHSS (ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome) which you would have probably read about, was pretty upset on friday as expected everything to go to plan but i guess thats just ivf. the good news is i had 5 successful day 3 embryos so they have been frozen and i will be able to have them transferred early January, so there is still hope, doctors wouldnt transfer them with my severity of ohss, my ovaries had swollen to 9cm in diameter!thank god im getting better as it can be very dangerous!

oh kirst i am so sorry to hear!!!!

At least your letting yourself get better before having the transfer I hope your feeling better

*note to 5 embryos - Be nice to ur mumma and implant! (Not sure if she wants all 5 to implant ) but all the same be nice coz shes been through alot for you all this cycle*

Posted By: Lulu
Date Posted: 21 November 2006 at 12:10pm
Oh Kirst I am so sorry that you didn't get to transfer. Yes I am very familiar with OHSS from some of the other girls on the everybody.co.nz board who have gone through it. A lot of them have gone on to have successful TER's (thawed embryo replacement)so it sounds very promising for you for January Kirst!

This is my very first IVF cycle Kirst. We have male infertility issues. I had my FSH bloodtest this morning, so just waiting for my results this afternoon, then hopefully will have a scan in the next day or two and then egg collection hopefully by Monday.

I will keep my fingers crossed for your TER in January!

They attach a loooonnng needle to a vaginal scan probe and put the needle through your uterus into your ovaries and 'suck' out the liquid from each follicle, which contains the egg. It then goes to the embryologist who is there too and he yells out how many eggs he's getting as he goes! Sorry if TMI!

Ginger I will keep everything crossed that AF does not turn up!

Yeah well apparently I was supposed to just feel a little 'prick' as the drugs were supposed to take away the pain and I should have had little or no memory of the procedure. BUT I felt every movement of the dang needle and I remember the ENTIRE thing
Still, I have zero pain today and a little pain yesterday will be soooo worth it if I have a successful outcome!

Exactly

I know what you mean about the drugs ...when I had my wisdom teeth out, I was put under 'conscious sedation' - ergo I was awake, but not supposed to remember a thing about it. WRONGO! I remember every single thing *including* something going wrong with the anaesthetic and the dentist getting stuck into ripping one of the teeth out and having full feeling! Needless to say, I went into shock pretty quickly ...

Mind you, when I had my endo surgery, they used the same drugs adn they worked *beautifully*. I hate to imagine what happened while I was on them though ...Al won't say, he just breaks into a huge grin and/or sniggers when I ask ... Apparently I did give him an extremely loud sloppy kiss before going into theatre though

I went under general for my wisdom teeth thank goodness! You poor thing!
Yes I told my DH that one of his tasks yesterday was to make sure I didn't do/say anything silly while out of it on drugs. But alas I wasn't that out of it!
They had a bit of trouble locating the vein and ended up going in at the wrist - not sure if that hindered the drugs at all...

Oh dear ...you'd make a terrible heroin addict if you have veins like that ... I'm extremely pale skinned (I am very lucky redhead ...I'm white as can be but I'm freckle-less!) and so they can see all my veins from start to finish and you just need to wave a needle in my direction and they all pop up!

I am pretty olive skinned and my veins don't always seem to behave. I've had issues in the past, but all my bloodtests through the IVF cycle have been good, so I thought my days of 'hiding' veins were over. But alas they picked egg collection day to go into hiding!

Wow what an awesome pic! To think that is the very first ever picture of your little bubs! Sending you some sticky vibes, and good luck for Dec 12! Will you hold out that long or be tempted to do a HPT earlier?

I love that Rachel - a flower! So sweet!

No Maya I don't think I will be tempted to do a HPT as I think that could do my head in which ever way it goes. If I got a BFP I'd be second guessing it, as sometimes left over HCG from the trigger injection can give a false positive, and if its a BFN I would be devasted. I know of a girl who recently did a HPT on the day of her BT and it was a BFN and then her Blood Test showed a BFP! She is now about 3 months pregnant. So I think it will be best for my sanity if I just hold on for the Blood Test!

Thanks everyone for you wishes

Ok so excuse my ignorance here but Im not really up with the IVF thing. Are you technically pregnant now and when you do the blood test on the 12th you find out if baby has 'stuck'? Sorry if that not a PC thing to ask, dont want to offend or anything just curious as to how it works.
