HI, Im having a hard time finding a mums and babies playgroup or other stimulating activity, because most of them seem to be in the am, and I need to be out and about in the afternoon with my one year old who sleeps in the am. Im in a central Wellington suburb. Does anyone know of anything?

Also, if there are several others in the same boat, perhaps we could start something??

That is so true, everything is in the morning!

I'm in a similar situation.

I've just moved to Wellington (I'm just out of the city centre) and have struggled to find any informal playgroups near where I live. There is either a waiting list or you have to pay a ridiculous amount of money.

I don't know anyone in NZ so I'm struggling to find things to do with my daughter. She's 11 months and I'm scared that I'm holding her back! I was wondering about the zoo....

You can contact your local Plunket - Newtown Plunket runs bimonthly drop ins where you can connect with a new group.

Afternoon catch ups are tricky because, as you point out, most babies sleep in the early afternoon. I have an afternoon coffee group once a week - but it didn't start through any organisation - it just sort of developed from our children's creche and previous contacts. I made a lot of local friends just by going to our local park a lot and to a local playgroud. This lead to coffee mornings etc!

UK2NZMummy: there are heaps of things to do! The zoo is good - we live nearby so have an annual pass for both girls. Junglerama is an indoor playground also in Newtown - it is free for under ones. There are lots of cool parks - I like the one in Waitangi Park best! There are heaps of playgroups via the Salvation Army. There are music and story sessions at the local libraries. The Kilbirnie pools have a really cool infant/ toddler pool with great family friendly changing rooms. If you are on Facebook search for Citywrigglers - they have a blog of things to do in Wellington and update it constantly! Feel free to PM if you have any Wellington baby questions!

Thanks for this. I contacted my local Plunkett nurse when we arrived in Wellington and the earliest she could fit me in to meet with her is 27th Feb so this time next week I'll be able to find out what's happening in my area. It's funny that you should mention the zoo. My birthday present from my niece and nephew is an annual pass for the zoo - we're going to go and buy it this weekend on our first trip!

I've also just joined Citywrigglers so will be checking it out when my daugher goes for her nap (she's currently terrorising my dogs!).

Thanks again.
