I am a mother of 2 under 3 and I am breastfeeding my little man still. Although I'm down to nightfeeds only there. I need advice regarding how to put on weight. I have just had a tummy bug which came home from preschool from my little darlings and although they got over it in less than 12 hours, it involved a full day of vomiting for me. I have just today started back on solid food.
Like normal I guess, ever since having my youngest I have just slowly lost my baby weight through breastfeeding and general running around after the toddler. I eat normal meals. I don't crave anything ever. I certainly would struggle trying to eat more. I plan to wean from breastfeeding soon. But what else can I do? I really need to put on weight. All of my size 8 clothes are too big and I just feel terribly thin and ghastly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Protein shakes or smoothies would help maybe 1-3 times a day plus what you would normally eat.
Or instead of increasing the amount you eat try and eat more foods with good fats like avocado, nuts, seeds or fish etc. Basically eating the same amount but with more calories.

I have the opposite problem but I know needing to gain weight can be a serious problem for some people. I had a friend who lost a lot of weight due to stress felt ghastly and stuggled to put it back on. She saw a dietician to give her tips to put weight on in a healthy way.
My friend used to drink a morning or afternoon tea of a get up and go type type drink, complan could work also but those are convienient when out. She added cashew or other nuts or avocado to a salad or stir fry.
Have a look at the healthy food guide website -

Maybe since you don't crave food or feel hungry you could pack a lunch box of the extra food you feel you should eat in a day? If it is prepared and ready it may be easier to make time to eat it? Perhaps once you wean it will all even out anyway - the fact that you are still able to breastfeed must mean that your body is still getting enough? Good Luck.

Thanks heaps everyone. I will do everything suggested. I found it hard finding info on the net and it seems like a stupid thing to see a gp about! There is so much advice around for losing weight and so much is advertised etc - it feels like a rediculous and petty problem to have. But anyway, we will see how it goes.
It means a lot that you guys responded. Cheers, M
