Just wondered whether anyone has been to Port Douglas before?

I would recommend staying on the main street as a few of the bigger resorts are about 10 mins drive from town, and its so nice to walk straight out of your apartment to a restaurant etc, or sit on your balcony and listen to the restaurants/people below. We were there about 14yrs ago so acommodation recommendations are a bit out of date but we stayed at the San Michele in an apartment, it was lovely and private, very boutiquish, but extremely central, still looks good on the website. I agree about staying near Macrossan Street, that's where you'll want to be near for the shops and restaurants. We stayed at one of the Mantra apartments (from memory there are a few but it was the one at the bottom of Macrossan Street).
