Hey Guys,
Day sleeping tips????
From the beginning she didn't sleep well and I had milk supply issues when she was born, shes wasn't producing any dirty nappies and it took her 3 weeks to get back to her birth weight. With all this in mind my midwife suggested formular top ups, which I was reluctant to do. However I gave it a go but only after giving her a top after long feeds that never made her sleepy, and now she poos regularly ans is gaining weight
However I'm having trouble getting my wee girl to sleep during the day, it has always been a struggle to get her to sleep during the day, she sleeps well during the night which is great!! But we struggle with day sleeping, unless its on my chest.
Should I be worried that stays awake for 3-5hrs before going to sleep during the day?? Shes a very content and alert wee girl.
thanks for your help

How old is she?
If she is happy and growing and contented and thriving and eating well, then why are you worried?
You could invest in a baby carrier so that she sleeps on you but you also get stuff done around the house.

She's probably overtired. My boys before the age of 4 months were up and down within the hour. Any longer than that and they would become wired and really very hard to get to sleep unless they were exhausted beyond belief

Agree with kebakat that she's probably overtired. One of my girls was a nightmare with day sleeps when she was little, also only slept on me which just wasn't possible with two.
What worked for us was going back to tight swaddling and using hammocks - totally recommend the Natures Sway hammock. I've loaned mine to several friends and they all love them too.
Check out The Sleepstore, they have lots of useful info on babies sleep relevant to their age. http://www.thesleepstore.co.nz/newborn-sleep/sleep-articles/the-happiest-baby-techniques-the-5-s-s - Here is the link for their newborn settling techniques
Good luck

For me it was all about establishing a routine ... then the day sleeps and the night sleeps were consistant and sorted. Also, agree The Sleepstore might have some useful tips. Good luck.

shes only 5 weeks, doesn't cry unless hungry, only sign of tiredness is yawning. At nights she goes to sleep while BF, but during the day I cant tell if I've given her enough as she is always so alert after her feed.
Going to look at getting a sling. thanks

At five weeks, my son could only manage 45 mins awake before he needed a nap. Perhaps try putting her down after about that long (as soon as she looks the slightest bit 'jerky') and see if she'll go down then? If I left Jacob longer, he'd be a nightmare to get down too.

My first boy was a terrible sleeper from day 1. None of this new born sleepy business for him. I eventually got him into 4 x 45min sleep which was never enough but he would not sleep longer. I just worked with what I had. Sometime heading up to 1 year he started to sleep longer.
DS2 was a better sleeper, though we had some rough patches with him too.
Go with what works for you and her. If you can get longer sleeps - great, if she's happy just go with it.

I agree with the others, she's probably overtired. Have you seen the plunket sleepytime DVD to pick up on their more subtle tired cues?
They're funny creatures, they go from being tired to overtired very quickly and once you've missed the window it is ages before you can get them to sleep.
I am however no sleep expert, my DS is a "bad" sleeper and although his day naps are pretty good nights are terrible. I see you said you feed her to sleep at night, that, I think is where all our problems started so I would urge you to try and put her down awake rather than feeding to sleep on you.
