Hi all!

Can you please give me ideas on where to stay in Nelson, Picton or anywhere around there?

How far is Golden Bay from Nelson?

Is there any other wee places that would be good to stay up that way?

We have a total of 4 nights I think.

Thanks!

Man so many places!
I grew up in blenheim, my favourite place is Lake Rotoiti. I always go stay a night or two when we head home. It is camping though.
Kaiteriteri is picture-perfect too. I'm not sure about where to stay there though as I always stay with my mum in Motueka.
Or you could find a bach to stay in Queen Charlotte sound. amazing and private!

I grew up in Nelson. If you base yourself in Tahunanui you'll be close to the beach (which is gorgeous) and only 10 mins drive from the city centre. There are lots of accommodation options, from camping to hotels.

I can't remember how far it is to Golden Bay but I second the suggestion about staying in Kaiteriteri, it's lovely but gets very busy during summer.

You could always base yourself in Nelson and do day trips to Kaiteri etc. It's not a huge drive.

Also grew up in Nelson (lovely place!!) - To Golden Bay from Nelson itself is about 1.5-2hrs... Kaiteriteri is a great place to go and visit, but this time of the year I believe the population goes from around 2,000 to 10,000 people all jammed into baches (/mansions) and the camping ground! Its beautiful, and would be perfect if you wanted a beach and the associated activities. IF you want shopping and food - probably not the place.

I second the suggestion to base yourself in Tahunanui... Its lovely there and very central... Also has the beach (not as nice as Kaiteriteri - but still way nicer than most of the beaches in NZ).. The camping ground there is pretty good but there are also loads of motels etc.

Golden Bay is just beautiful.. Go and check out Pupu springs (clearest water in NZ or something like that)... Go over to Mapua for lunch (either fancy fish and chips or one of the restaurants on the wharf)... Have a look at Eyebright and all their xmas decorations (thats just out of Richmond).. Eat at many of the lovely places in Nelson (I love the Morrison St Cafe, the Boatshed in Tahuna is very expensive but very delicious!)..

All this is making me so homesick! Enjoy your holiday

Oh yes definitely see if you get a chance to go to Lake Rotoiti (we always just drive through on the way south from Nelson as opposed to staying there the night)... And I couldnt recommend Te Mahia bay in the Kenepuru (Marlborough) sounds highly enough.. Just had a wedding there in the last month - just lovely xxx
