We are off to Europe next week and I want to take my P&T Explorer with me this time around. Our flights are booked with Lufthansa but I just noticed the AKL-Vancouver part of the flight is operated by Air NZ.

Lufthansa states on their website that any prams and strollers can be take right up to the gate where airline staff will take them, store it and give them back after landing. Which is what happened at our last trip.

On the Air NZ website it says you can only take umbrella strollers which fit on the overhead compartments, other prams must be checked in.
This really sucks as I was relying on having the pram during our stopover as I am travelling by myself again.

Has anybody flown with Air NZ and been allowed to take their pram on board or are they quite strict with these rules?

Here we go again, another baby on it's way!

I think Air NZ and Lufthansa are both part of the Star Alliance group so you should be fine for both flights but I would phone them just to be sure - and explain your situation.

I think it sometimes depends on the airline staff and airport staff and how helpful/unhelpful they feel. We travelled to Sydney on AirNZ - on the way over could take our stroller to the gate (and it was a fairly big modern one) but in Sydney they took it off us as soon as we checked in then told us there were no complimentary ones available.

Check with the airline, but I'd also have a backup plan. Often airports have strollers you can borrow and I imagine vancouver would be like that.

Have you got a sling/carrier ? If you have to check the buggy in you could sling her to the gate.

Our Manduca as awesome for travelling especially at the airport and on the plane managed to get bubs to snooze in it.

We packed our Phil and Teds away - we have the travel bag for it. I know it is prob a pain - but what if you had both?

What do you mean Red, have both the pram and travel bag or the pram and a sling?

I am still undecided if I should get a travel bag as I heard it can be a bit tricky getting the pram in it, especially when at the airport with all the other stuff going on.

Will probably take a pouch sling for just in case. At least they are small and won't take much room in my bag.

I flew Air NZ to Gold Coast recently and they didnt take the pram until we were just about the board, so I only had DS in the boarding area for a bout 5 mins.

I've never had airnz allow me to take my stroller. They always make me check it, so I don't even try now. Tried for Oz and the pacific islands, but long haul may be different.

I mean take the P&T as packed luggage and have a cheap stroller for airport. It is tricky getting the P&T into travel bag especially if you want to take the wheels off and I wouldn't want to have to do that in the middle of the aiport by myself with a toddler!

ETA - pouch sling good idea as you can just pop bubs on your hip.

Hmm, no definitely won't be taking my P&T and a stroller. I am possibly going to buy a Quinny while over there and don't fancy bringing 3 strollers back to NZ lol!

I think I will just try taking the pram with me and see how I go. I could always play the stressed mother traveling alone card I guess!

I haven't got a travel bag yet but think I will buy one just in case they do take the pram of me. '
Could not find any info about complementary strollers in Vancouver though.

Hi Sem,

We flew to the UK earlier this year with Star Alliance and took our P&T Vibe. The lovely woman at the Air NZ counter said she would arrange it so we could use our buggy in the Wellington airport until we were just about to go to through to the gate and then check it in (well after all our other bags) and she put a special tag on it so it would be waiting for us at the gate in Hong Kong (there for 5 hours).

It wasn't though - and we were told we had to go through customs to get it, which we did and waited forever and it still didn't arrive. Thankfully we had a sling with us.

We waited at so many airport gates for our buggy to arrive, and it never did - apparently because it was in the proper P&T travel bag it looked like normal luggage, so it doesn't get noticed and brought to the gate like a stroller in a clear plastic bag would.

Not sure if that helps at all. I actually really liked the P&T stroller bag and it is really easy to wheel about but we were told 'it looks like normal luggage' a few times. Our bag and buggy got trashed anyway (and replaced) so the bag wasn't that helpful - next time I would just go with the airline plastic bag.
