I know cows milk isnt to be given as a drink on its own till babys a year old, but  I had read that from about 7mths you can add it to foods whilst making them.  DS has had it in custard, mac cheese and I gave him weetbix with some milk this morning, just wanted to double check im not giving him too much cows milk.  He doesnt have those foods all the time, and like alot of baby foods seem to be made with whole milk, (also give him home made and bought yogurt) hope im not over doing it??  Can anyone tell me what it is in the milk that they cant tolerate it till a year?  Thanks

I don't think you're over doing it. I gave DS cows milk in a similar way from about that age too. He's 1yr now and loves cows milk so the transition from BF has been really easy.
I think it's the lactose in milk that might disagree with some babies and it's hard to digest. All dairy can give them a bit of a sore tummy initially I think. If your baby's #2s are still the same and aren't mucousy or strong smelling then I'd say carry on doing what you're doing...but that's just my opinion!

Jacob had it in those amounts, and it didn't seem to bother him at all.

After you introduce dairy (and assuming you've got a baby with no dairy issues) I don't think it's about tolerating it, I thought it was just that either BF or FF needed to be the main drink.

Plunket have lowered the introduction age for dairy to 7mths at the moment. I say "at the moment" because it was heaps latter with DS1, and I've got a friend with a kid 1yr older than him and it was younger then. Go figure.

I think it is more about cows milk not being their only drink, so either formula or breastmilk. Milk is fine to be introduced but not as the main food/drink.

Yep, this is what I thought too. I started using cows milk in his food from about 6 months old. Couldn't really see the difference since he was eating yoghurt already!

Its cos cows milk is casein dominant so it is harder for babies to digest.

agree with the last three - its only bad if its the only drink / food souce due to the digestion and lack of iron and nutrients etc in cows milk,
I used either breastmilk or cows milk in cooking before my girl was one, with both actually, but we have no history of allergies in either family, so that would be the only thing I would be mindful of
